Story is unbearably bad
They picked one of the most interesting part of MH lore and made a soap opera out of it. Tons of walk and talk and boring meaningless dialogs. ALL CHARACTERS are uninteresting and non-relatable, their stories are just poorly written and don't make sense, sometimes it feels like they cut some chunks that glue the whole thing together.

It got so bad I just had to start skipping all of it and I waited to play this game since MHW.
Just venting

They're trying to attract wider audience with more cinematic story by...forcing walk and talk and listen to poorly written dialogs and characters.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this actually pushes away both old AND new players
That's what happens when you let an MMO director take over.

Honestly OP, try it in Japanese. This is a badly dubbed anime. It might help if you know some Japanese as the English subtitles are just the English script superimposed over people saying *completely different things* (at times) but at least Nata won't be as gratingly annoying.

The script is much much better in JP. Once modding tools are figured out I'd be happy to throw my hand in with other fans to translate better subtitles.

You didn't have to suffer through unnecessary crap in old titles? You're paying to have your time wasted.
We did suffer, my friend, there were some story missions that were a cancer, here at least it's fast, of course it's very linear but it's simple, just hunting, imagine when you had to go on a mission to find the trail of the monster, hunt another one and then do 3 more missions to find the trail and then be able to advance the mission xD that was a cancer in World, and the aquatic missions or egg collection ajajja god but they are anecdotes that make you laugh today =D
Theres a difference between skippable flavor text and insufferable custscenes but if MH World is one of the old titles for you it tells me all I need to know. Don't reply to me further.

Yooo ngl, I did that, and I might just be a weeb, but that bad script sounds more tolerable

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that felt this way. I only played the first Beta and I found the story and character interaction insufferable. Like my character is just waiting for permission to do anything and then gets sicced on things by the gaggle of somewhat insufferable female npcs.

Yup. Even if you don't know enough Japanese to figure out what they're actually saying (and trust me, it *is* better), the characters sound like adults in a natural environment, not dorks in a recording booth.

Nata especially is much less of a pain in the a$s. He's actually a traumatized child you can have sympathy for. This goes double for if you actually know what is said to him.

Well, there was always going to be a reason that they forced players to saunter alongside the NPC crew and listen to their exposition; and that reason was not because Capcom could not code the game to allow players to just hunt*... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(*"hunt" clearly used figuratively, given that the game lacks all semblance of any actual hunting of anything)

I've seen you a few times around and you really do have a big chip on your shoulder or depression. All your posts tend to be very passive aggressive.
you have actually never seen me around and have schizophrenia. a simple look at my past posts and you can see they are spaced out by months/years.

take your medication.

I assumed that too, while I don't know much I did pick up that Nata wasn't screaming his father/uncle? names outside his home village. Game tells me he said his name.
So this is most likely a woke own fanfic of the story.

Yeah I can't excuse that part of the game. At least in World you had to build up your research level over time finding footprints and scales/feathers before you could just call a tail rider and have it automatically track the monster. The fact you can just open a book, select what you want, and bee-line it without any environmental interaction is just... :|

Sometimes all it takes is the tone and good directing to make bad things sound good lmao

Not only did I not buy it buy family share it but I never expected them to figure it out.

I expected Crapcom to figure out that they don't need a story much like they didn't need it in the originals.

Get your tourist take out of here. I don't enjoy this crap in the slightest, it looks like World, plays like World, runs like crap. You sure are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ intelligent buying this piece of crap.
tourist doesnt apply to one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. do you have brain damage or do you not know what that buzzword means? let me help:

Tourist, as a perjorative, is used only for games with a small but dedicated fanbase that wants to keep out casual normies.

this is one of the most popular games ever created and has been around since I started playing it on PS2. your entire account is F2P garbage and g0yslop, your opinion means less than nothing you actual impoverished person.

Localizers took a big sh*t on this game's script. For sure.

Please do this. I love people like you and the work yall do fixing subpar localizations from hacks that have no business revising content they didn't originally write.

I couldn't do it alone, but I can certainly make it known here and elsewhere that I'm keen. My JLPT level is around N3/N2 and I'm good at problem solving kanji and words I don't know. My knowledge of idiomatic expressions is basically fluent - I'm just short on some specialized vocabulary and a handful of advanced grammar. So to anyone reading this thread, drop me a message if you're a modder interested in fixing this game's subtitling to more accurately reflect the (superior) Japanese original audio.
