Why Mount a monster now?
I should have made this topic sooner, but waited a bit after the beta cuz I was busy.

I have to ask, is mounting a benefit anymore? That's not a salty question. I just don't understand the what the benefits are. With Rise's mounting system you were able to deal damage to opposing monsters easily. With World's mounting system you leave it with a stun.

Is the goal to inflict as many wounds as possible from stabbing various bodyparts? is it the damage you get from strong attacks? Is it even possible to get stuns anymore? Every time I mounted a monster in the Wilds beta here, the damage felt at best what I'd be doing if I didn't mount it in the first place. I think the rate of wounding is faster while mounting, but I don't understand the value of wounding so far.

I believe you get guaranteed knockdowns still. The main benefit of mounting is creating multiple wounds for "free" and wounds will allow you to deal massively more damage or helps accomplish your weapon goals (e.g. giving CB savage axe, letting hunting horn stock 5 notes)

and in case you just didn't quite understand how mounting works in this game, you're supposed to open a wound and then perform a weapon attack on that wound to do a similar finisher to what you do in world, giving a knockdown and finishing the mount.

Okay, I couldn't seem to get a finisher so this left me confused. I use Charge Blade which has a very fancy and noticeable finisher in World. I did most my hunting in this beta with a friend who uses a bow, who always breaks wounds as soon as they form, prematurely knocking down the mounted monster before I can finish I guess.

Some weapons will benefit from knockdown such as IG and DB. Other weapons such as Hammer, HBG, LGB and Bow are better off not wasting time trying to mount.

The finisher for Wilds is so much better and I'm sorry your buddy is a little bit of a twerp for that, you full on buzz saw into the monster and it looks so metal for how awesome it was, my second favorite to hammer that looks sick for other reasons.

Your buddy was also being very greedy and hurting your play in the long run, without skills to back up its other playstyles in the beta and just assuming the early game being without skills you wanna pop wounds to get axe mode to go nuts for damage.

press R1 after wound appear, you gonna get high damage finished followed with knockdown for free damage

The finnisher is RB or LB if I recall ccorrectly, it 's a seperate button and not the end of your light attack spam.

You can create a wound with heavy knife attacks, then move to another part of the monster, create another wound, and if you have enough stamina left you can make and finish a third wound.

It's huge. Especially for weapons like Insect Glaive and Sword and Shield that can really exploit those taller wounds.

You can inflict wounds and cause a knockdown
Yea, you definitely dont know Monster Hunter in those other topics.

Its built up to be very useful now since you can basically guarantee wounds if you dont suck at mounting. Theres even a rotation out there to optimize inflicting 3 wound spots.

It looks cool ☕
But also, open wounds more easily and create a knock down

mounting is beneficial. it was rarely if ever optimal in any mh game if that is the actual question.

the benefits are knocking the monster over, easily creating multiple wounds, and using the finisher to do extra damage + triggering the special affects on certain weapons like unlocking saw mode for cb and getting all buffs for ig.

Free knock down and some burst damage plus some wound creation.

You're all wrong. Get all that logic out of here.
We mount cause it's badass to rodeo the dragon and knock em over.

I guess I struck the nerve of some smoothbrain by laughing at people who can't shut up about woke for more than a couple hours. I thought you were familiar. lmao.

The beta lasted a very short while in the most crowded event period of the year. I didn't have time to test these things myself, I barely got to hunt everything in the beta once or twice. More so focusing on how the multiplayer ran.
