Revert the glaive changes
You took the very foundations of the weapon away and made it not even flow well. Having to charge attacks to deal damage while having downtime after is incredibly frustrating. The ground combos do not flow, and the aerial capabilities are effectively dead.

So, design just thought it was a good idea to take the only defensive option away from a weapon that already lacks fluidity, while thinking it's a great idea to give even more counters to the long sword?

I am reconsidering getting the game.

Do better.

2) I generally disagree, Insect Glaive has great flow now on both floor and aerial, it just needs adapting to.

I also think it's way more powerful than previous versions of IG. I genuinely believe that IG's will be showing really good DPS in the full game release, especially utilising the kinsect focus attacks (not ultimate spam).
DPS doesn't matter if the weapon isn't fun to play.

If you genuinely find it interesting and fluid, please explain.
This is a discussion forum after all.

Holding focus mode (or setting it to toggle) and using basic attacks now sends your kinsect out with each attack, so you fight alongside your trusty bug for increased damage + kinsect effects AND you even get extracts for each move! We even get Flinch Free from orange Kinsect extracts! How insane is that?

We can now charge the kinsects by holding R2 + Triangle and fire them out like a drill, gaining up to all 3 extracts in one move. We can also reposition freely whilst doing this.

You can fully reposition your character (on floor or aerial) whilst charging the Circle move (descending slash), giving you freedom of movement during a fight without causing downtime.

Whilst charging Descending Slash we can attack with Triangle, creating free combos that end in a charged Descending Slash "finisher".

Or we can charge Descending Slash, then whilst holding it vault into the air with R2+X, then by releasing Circle we instead do a Descending Thrust, sending us straight down through the monster and into a combo. We can even dodge and attack mid air whilst still holding Circle to allow us to aerial reposition and go into a charged Descending Slash!

We can even charge descending thrust, vault up, go into helicopter mode and CANCEL out of helicopter mode by releasing Circle!! No more overshooting monsters, no more helplessly helibobbing into an unexpected move!

This can then be combo'd into the L2+O ultimate that launches you into the air smoothly, from here you can go into a focus strike to refill all extracts or go into a downward slash.

We now have sidestep slash to go with dodge slash too.

So IG has become a near-zero downtime weapon, with increased movement and has become an insanely techy weapon for reacting to fights.

Free movement, no downtime, increased elemental effects, cancel out of aerial, huge combo potential and we gained an additional dodge attack!

I do think IG has become more techy and this comes with added complexity/difficulty, but it's now such a fluid and reactive weapon that will REALLY reward intelligent play.

I knew about Descending Thrust and loved using it, but I didn't even try to use it off a vault by pre-charging it! God I love this weapon in Wilds. It's really close to toppling SnS as my favorite weapon. I've always loved spear/staff weapons but it always felt a bit clunky in 4th Gen with extract gathering and 5th Gen didn't really sell me on it until Descending Thrust in Iceborne, but I've grown to love the weapon the more I've used it in GU and World, Wilds is definitely peak Stick&Bug though

I think it's just different, and that takes readapting to. Muscle memory is a thing and we need to adapt to new timings, new animations and move changes.

But I genuinely think you should give it another go if/when the demo releases and try to keep an open mind, because I think you'll find that with some time and practice... the new IG is so much better than Worlds.. SO much better.
Oh no I definitely will, if I can get past 30 fps or frame gen lmao!

Might still keep LS as my new main though, looking at the dismount move -- but if glaive does make a comeback that'd be very much welcome!

That's why I'm so torn between IG and SnS because my god the new SnS moves are sick too.

I think SnS will be my ol' reliable until I git-gud with the new IG.

They really are, my muscle memory is sad about the rising slash from Guard being replaced with Sliding Slash because my infinite kept getting interrupted by it lol. I'll just need to get used to leaving guard out of my rotation except to gap close further distances than the draw slash takes me.

Congratulations on winning the "most misconstrued argument" award.
You wanted something more than a dismissive ad hominem, then are dismissive yourself. To use your own words, If you genuinely find it [a misconstrued argument], please explain.
This is a discussion forum after all.

Or do you accept that you didn't have enough time to fully understand the weapon changes and system changes that come along with a generational change in MonHun. It's ok to admit that. I've been there. I started in 4th Gen and the jump to World was genuinely jarring to me. I could suddenly angle my attacks more drastically, I was far more mobile. I could drink potions while moving and not flex in place afterwards. It was a whole new World, pun intended, I even disliked (still do in some cases) the majority of the changes and ranted to my friends not dissimilarly to the way you're doing here publicly.

So as someone who genuinely went through this before, it's not the end of the world mate. You'll get comfortable with the IG changes, you'll still prefer 5th Gen IG (and 5th Gen in general, just like how I see 4th Gen as peak MonHun) and that's OK, but you'll come to love 6th Gen IG for what it is and continue playing into 7th Gen, where someone who started in Wilds will complain about how Capcom ruined X weapon and need to "revert the changes" and you'll read that post and laugh to yourself and say "yeah, I've been there too." before wanting to gouge your eyes out at the dozens of posts on the same topic.
I don't care enough to look at other posts around the topic. I wanted to quickly express my own opinion on it, and gave my reasons as to why I feel this way, while emphasizing that it is affecting my purchase decision.

What you called a "rant" is a tiny, two paragraph page of warranted criticism. It's not my problem that you're looking at all these other threads and getting angry at them.

But I do agree, it could be a thing like acquired taste. But as of now -- I genuinely do not like the new glaive, so I am free to express my opinion on it, just like you are.

Don't know if the other threads are at all productive, but Goblin here was a really good sport and got me interested in the weapon again through healthy conversation which is supposed to be what these forums are for.

And as for you misconstruing my argument, you did. All I said was that the ground moveset lacks fluidity (in my opinion), and that the aerial playstyle is dead. I never claimed which boat I belonged to, which is 800 hours of mostly glaive. Ground glaive, after figuring out aerial was crap a long time ago. That was all your attempt at discrediting my original argument by making assumptions and misrepresenting the point.
Nikshi Nov 13, 2024 @ 6:40am
To add, I also made a point that while aerial used to be a defensive measure for glaive, it got taken out, while they gave even more counters to long sword. It makes no sense to me.

Only bring back aerial IG combat if IG players automatically get kicked when joining muliplayer games. :rk_foot:
