Game won't start because of missing steam_api.dll (RESOLVED)
I just got a my computer back from being repaired (it had a fan problem) today and I went to play new vegas, upon starting the game how I normally do it stopped working so I tried loading it through the normal launcher and I get a dialogue box telling me it cannot start because of a missing Steam_api.dll file. I asumed this was for theg ame because other games started up fine, fallout 3 for example. So far the problem persists and i've tried veryifying the game cache and i've completly uninstalled the game and redownloaded it. Anybody got any clue whats happened because I would imagine completly redownloading the game would fix most if not all problems with the game. I'm a loss for what to do now.

I ran one more verification and it managed to recover the file however appently now its missing the binkw32.dll. Also I believe i'm already running it as an admin but I will double check to see if maybe that sovles the new problem.

I had the same problem, minus that second error. Launching as admin fixed it but so did restarting my computer. Haven't had the issue since.

Hm guess i'll try restarting as well. Also curiously before I did that second verification for the game I found the steam_api.dll file in the games files and I removed it before and saw it had created a compeltly new one. after I removed the old one from my desktop (where I had put it temporaily) I got the old message again. Appently my steam_api.dll must be on my desktop for that to work. Kind of odd. Anyway I'll keep trying anything I can think of in the meantime.

Steam just doesn't recongnize it sometimes. No idea why this happens. Make a direct shortcut to the falloutnv.exe and right click, run as admin. Maybe a direct desktop shortcut will help.

Its doing a lot of not recognizing I did that following a list of files until I got an application load error. i'll try that shortcut thing to.

Well the shortcut didn't work, and i'm left an the application load error 3:000005432. This is quickly becoming a nightmare to fix. I appriciate the help everyone has offered, especily hunk's. I'll just have to hope I can find some way to get the game to recognize the files and figure this out.

Holy crap, not only a necro but the completely wrong board. Now that is something.

Maybe if it would be an Origin/UPlay issue too, it would be perfect.
Have same problem and nothing fixes it
