I could just throw the stuff I want to sell away and player.additem the caps I would've gotten for it, lols
You should be aware that console commands disables achievements for that session.
If you input the command while shopping, you won't see the number change right away. You must exit the merchant screen and talk to the merchant again for the caps to be added to their inventory.
Lastly, try not to give the merchant more than 25,000 caps or their money will "glitch". Selling stuff won't give you any caps(no cap transfer is made whatsoever). Funny thing is, this money glitch is in Skyrim too. -.- You can make this bug happen by buying more than 30,000 caps worth of stuff and try to sell it back.
There are also mods that increase merchant money amount, a simple search on the word "merchant" will get you a few hits on the Nexus.
You can also store money in chems or in ammo if you are not in hardcore mode. The latter was one of the most common currency alternatives in Fallout 3.
Finally you can use mods to decrease buy and increase sell prices for them, so you cannot get rich before reaching the Mojave outpost…
