Game has stopped working
I bought New Vegas last week, and it has been working absolutely perfectly. I installed a few mods and began playing, everything was good. However, I loaded my game yesterday and after roughly 2 minutes, the game crashed and ended with the message "Fallout NV has stopped working." Ever since this has happened I can't even load the title screen up. If I click Play, the small splash screen comes up with Play - Options - Tech Support etc and the music plays. If I click any of these, then nothing happens and eventually my computer just crashes.

I've tried reinstalling the game and unistalling the mods but to no avail. When I check the game integrity in Properties, I get the message "1 game file failed to verify"

Can anyone help?

Delete the INI files from C:\Users\<name>\Document\My Games\falloutnv and hit the Options in the launcher.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I did this and managed to get into the Options in the launcher (which before would just crash). I then tried launching the game but nothing has happened. I imagine my computer will crash in a sec and I will have to restart. Any other suggestions?

Check said INI files, they sometimes get stuck in read-only mode. Also make sure you launch Steam client in admin mode, and set the game EXE files to that too. When the launcher gets stuck it most of the time means it cannot read and/or write these configuration files to start the game.

I did this and also updated my graphic drivers. It launched fine which was a relief. I then tried to re-install the 4 mods I use and launch and nothing! So I'm guessing my computer will crash again in a second :( Must be one of the mods, any idea why they wouldn't work as they are very popular mods used by a lot of people?

To have an idea we'd need the name of the mods…

Tell a lie, I have 3.

Willow companion mod
FNV Sexual Innuendo - NPC Plugin
FNV Sexual Innuendo - Wasteland Sex Module version H

Sexual Innuendo. No question about it.

Thank you for your help and quick responses talgaby! I'll unistall those and give it a go. It was working with them at first, not sure why it stopped all of a sudden.

Uninstalling that mod has got it working again! Thank you, talgaby, you've been a great help :)

You are welcome.
Although I have to add that expect crashes later, it just comes with the game. So save often.

Hi talgaby, sorry to bring the discussion back up. I have started having problems again :( Everything has been running perfectly for the last 2 days and I've managed to get through a lot of the game in that time. However, it crashed whilst fast travelling today and I can no longer launch the game. I tried a few of the things you suggested in this discussion but to no avail. I haven't installed any futher mods since you helped fix the last issue.

What do you mean you cannot launch it? What is the exact problem?

When I click Play Fallout New Vegas, the small launcher screen appears and the music begins. However, when I click Play, it will disappear and begin loading, then nothing happens, the game never loads up. Eventually I receive a "Your computer ran into some problems" error and it restarts. This was the same problem I was having before.

Launcher stuck in a loop is most of the times locked INI files in C:\Users\<name>\Document\My Games\falloutnv; check them for read-only and the permissions tab to make sure Windows didn't remove the permission from Everyone and your user name.
Also make sure you start Steam client in Admin mode.

That's done it! Thanks for saving me, again!
