New Vegas stopped working
I just bought new vegas and went to start a new game. It opened fine and played the opening cutscene but then crashes after the cutscene is over.

Im using windows 8, 64-bit, on a custom built PC with 8gb of ram

What Ive tried:
-Verify integrity of game cache -> Came up with "1 file must be reacquired" but then did not proceed to download anything
-change .ini files
-start in compatibility mode as admin
-installed the d3d9.dll file
-updated drivers

There may be some more I havent mentioned, but really any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Id rather not download any mods, but if I have to then I will.

Is it crashing if you hit New game and press Esc like a maniac?

Most of the times it's an external error, meaning programs like Raptr, game-experience boosting third-party apps (including anything that came with your GPU that is not the basic driver and control panel) and multi-monitor managing applications are known to interfere with the game engine, preventing it from loading. Only a manual service stop of uninstall fixes it.
Rarely it's the antivirus, a simple whitelist is good for that.
Also a few recent versions of nVidia drivers have been reported to cause instant crashes, and sometimes the same goes for the 14.9 Catalyst on a bunch of AMD families.

Welcome to PC gaming.

Also, little silly spending that much on it. It was just on sale a few days ago, and will be again in a few weeks.

Is there anywhere with a list of incompatibilities? I tried to stop most of the apps running.

It could be other things, including your drivers. Problem with a game just straight up crashing is it can take awhile to troubleshoot and see what the problem is.

No list, it would be hard to keep up to date anyway, since they are not breaking the game for everyone.

0xc0000005 is a common memory-handling error, and mostly confirms what I said above. In most cases it's a driver, and with New Vegas it's mostly the GPU driver, but even a custom fancy mouse driver like Steelseries' dashboard thingie can cause it.
Just comb through your program files or programs folder for anything that is gaming-related, or look around the drivers of they installed a software that is not actually a driver but some performance enhancer (which, by the way, are totally useless…).

Ok, one silly question. I had the game from a rent shop. Played ok. Format the pc, new video cards, bought on sale now, installed again via steam. A million crashes... Even if i have paid 4.99 on sale its my money and i could have spent it to another game. And instead of trying to fix it i could playing. My rig is nvidia 770 x2 16GB ram Windows 7 x64. Tried every mod that is anticrash or... and no luck. The 4GB mod the same. We are just sheeps... And any ideas?
