"No Sound Device Detected"
When I try run FNV (or Skyrim, or FO3, or most steam games) from the laucher it says ' No sound device detected, Fallout cannot run' and stops loading. It will launch if I have my headphones plugged in, or if I lauch it through NVSE. I'm pretty sure this is a problem with my audio driver but I'd done a lot of searched and tried installing various drivers and none of them have fixed it.

Kind of a noob at this but the only information I can give you is that my audio driver is Realtek? Whatever that means.

Strange, usually reinstalling the factory drivers solves this problem.

The sound on my PC does work, but only if I have headphones connected. If I plug them out during game play then scripted events that involve dialouge won't work and the quests wont advance. I'm pretty sure I reinstalled the correct ones, but I dont know. Maybe I should try deleting all the associated registry files as well.

HMM, the basics are;

1. Never unplug or plug in your headphones while you have a game running. Always do that before starting a game.

2. Go into your pc's control panel then "sound" and set it for either Headphones or speakers. It may be that when you unplug your headphones your pc is not automatically switching back to using your speakers as the default sound output. You may have to manually set the speakers as your sound device.
* If your headphones are not plugged in when you go into the control panel, you won't have the option to choose headphones as the sound device.

Edit; If you use a HD T.V. for a monitor, have it hooked up via a HDMI connection and want to have the sound go through your T.V., then unplug All other speakers and headphones for it to automatically use your T.V. speakers. Or you can manually set it in the control panel.
