Any advice? I will say that I never have very much ammo with me. Where can I find a lot of microfusion cells/energy cells

If you start with an energy skill higher than your guns skill (or something like that), Doc will hand you a laser pistol instead of the normal 9mm gun. He also has another free Laser Pistol in his house, with free ammo.

Purchase energy cell bulk ammo from Chet. Wait around for a few days so you can stock up.

The GRA laser pistol is a very good starting weapon for an energy weapons build, Chet sells it along with some mods.

There is sometimes a recharger energy weapon in a nearby coyote cave south east of Godsprings that you don't need ammo for. The location can be seen here: http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Goodsprings_Cave. It may not be the harderst hitting weapon but you can use it on weak enemies so you don't have to waste ammo.

There are several places with dead Bright Brotherhood ghouls, that often have various energy weapons on them. There are alot of them at Repconn, which is nearby of Novac, the town with a gaint dinosaur, you'll find a few on the way if you look in the right places.

While you're starting out it makes more sense to commit to either ECs or MFCs, converting one into the other at a workbench.

Early plasma pistol, if you skip the good springs opening head to the NCR prison, do, the quests eddie has, then betray them to ncr you can get a very early plasma pistol, just avoid powder gangers so they dont shoot you 1st, plus alot of extra loot ripe for the taking after the battle

Or just do OWB early. It is an infinite source of energy cells.
