Best Machine gun
I think it's the BAR from Dead Money. It has the damage of of a Hunting Rifle and it's rapid fire. Small clip and slow rate of fire compared to other Machine guns, So it doesn't use ammo insanely fast.

Only thing that sucks about it. Is it breaks easy. I just purchase a bunch of weapon repair kits from the Vending machine in the Brotherhood bunker to counter that.

The LMG because with the mods for it nothing can stop you. Nothing.
MTV Mar 27, 2015 @ 6:22pm
The LMG only has one mod that increases clip size. I didn't care for the LMG. It's not a bad gun, but its damage is too low. Against enemies with decent DT you're gonna waste a lot of ammo. You can use AP rounds to help. But you're not gonna be able to get large amounts. Unless you hoard.

The LMG uses way too much ammo too quick.

I prefer the BAR for having the damage of a rifle, but the perks of being a machine gun.

I don't really care for the spread on these guns.

theres the shoulder mounted Machine gun I liked vs things with no DT with JHP rounds.

the Bozar ...is a Bozar.
cyberdog guns.

Miniguns.

gatling lasers.

I lean toward the minigun and gatling lasers due to the lower spread.

the CZ57 Avenger is 390 damage per second.

the Sptel wood is 300 damage per second but with the perk effects it gets much more.

Well with WMX more mods are added and I use one, but I forgot what it is.

The overall best imo is the Assault Carbine.
It's lightweight, accurate, and uses the much more practical 5mm ammo type which comes with natural armor penetration.

The BAR is just a hassle since it uses expensive .308 rounds, weighs a ton, and you have to constantly maintain it.
MissRockyqo Mar 27, 2015 @ 7:09pm
The BAR is easy to maintain, and refill if you picked up enough Sierra Madre chips, and the right Vending Machine codes before leaving the casino
MTV Mar 27, 2015 @ 7:40pm
Assault carbine I forgot about that. That's probably a good choice too.

BAR is easy to maintain. You can buy everything you need for it from the Vending machines.

I was able to get over over 12K+ in casino chips from Dead money.

I was able to buy over four thousand rounds for my BAR at the end of Dead money. I could have bought even more than that. I bought a bunch of weapon repair kits and some chems on top of that.

I'm playing on Hardcore. I was still able to carry all that ammo for my BAR though.

I built my Character to carry a ton of stuff. I have 8 Strength, Hoarder,Pack Rat,Strong Back,Heavyweight. I just need Burden to Bear.

I only carry stuff I need on my character, one set of armor, two guns and some ammo. Other than that I carry small amount of food and water. I have the Cannibal perk. So I can just eat my enemies for food. I also keep some weapon repair kits handy.

I don't really loot anything anymore. I have 100 barter and I'm rich. I only loot caps, chems, food and water.

I have a large supply of stuff stashed if I need it though.

.306 ammo isn't hard to come by.

as I recall contreas stocks a large amount. as does the NCR and Khan Armories. and yes you can get it from the vending machine.

doing Old world blues you get alot of .357 and .44. both have a hand load variant to add damage (as does .306) but the hand load variant on the .357 is better because it also bypasses DT.

the automatic rifle has a spread of 2.64. and a damage per second of 240. clip of 20

the cyberdog guns have spreads of 1.35 and damage of 274.4 Clip of 50, and 1.5 and 252. Clip of 50.

the .357 cyberdog gun is there for better in terms of damage, spread, clip size, ammo type, ammo availablity...etc.

the only real problem with it is you probably need add a recipe to allow you to make the ammo faster at a bench (in batches of 10 at a time seems to work for me just add a zero everywhere to the old recipe.)

In my game the Stats are different. Did you factor in skill?

My Bar does 51 dam and has 379 DPS.

Cyberdog gun has 28 dam and 389 DPS.

This on my character with 100 Guns and both are at perfect condition.

red255 Mar 28, 2015 @ 5:13am
I went by the stats posted on the wiki. doesn't change the fact that the cyberdog gun has half the spread of the automatic rifle.

the stats I used were with normal ammo, no perks. are you comparing JSP ammo to normal .357?
MTV Mar 28, 2015 @ 6:03am
I was just going off normal ammo for both weapons. I think the Wiki only shows the weapons base damage. It doesn't factor weapons skill, weapon condition or perks.

The spread doesn't bother me. It's a machine gun. Not a high precision rifle.

Abeline LE BB Gun is the best weapon in the game if you build a character around max Luck, all the Crit Chance boosting perks and stealth kill with it. Its basically a suppressed sniper rifle with a huge magazine capacity and has the highest critical damage bonus of anything in the game.

Theres also the recharger pistol which has a VATS bug that makes it hilariously OP with the right character build.

You can also add in the 12.7 mm SMG to the list of automatic weaponry. I think it's close to being the highest dps gun in the entire vanilla game.
Ammo is hard to come by though without a mod that lets you melt down casings and create new ones.

I thought Q. Bardon and that Great Kahn sells them in bulk?

@OP: Exactly how much ammo do you carry for the BAR because of the self-imposed limitation I play (Bout 10 reloads + 1 in magazine) I run out of ammo really quickly with that weapon.
MTV Apr 3, 2015 @ 3:48am
I did have North of 4 thousand rounds. I purchased a bunch of ammo from the Vending machine in the Brotherhood bunker after completing Dead Money. I'm playing on hardcore. I have almost all the carryweight perks. So I was able to carry all my ammo.

The ammo weighed a lot though. I had to give up a lot of stuff to carry it all. The ammo weighed like over 120 pounds I think. I had Pack Rat.

I'm almost out of ammo now though. I was playing Old World Blues. So many enemies constantly spawn in that DLC. That I used a lot of ammo killing things. It lasted me awhile though.
