Courier's past
What do you think was the couriers past like before being shot in the head? Do you think he was part of the legion since in-game they say some couriers were part of the legion like ulysses or do you think he was an average person just trying to get by in the dangerous wastelands?

All we know that (s)he has been in Utah and was a survivalist who started a community near Hopeville. Also, probably was born as an NCR citizen.

I think that's where roleplaying comes into play.
Some blanks are filled in, like talgaby said before, but the rest is up to the player to finish.

Probably not part of the legion, as Ulysses would have known you from that (ulysses is one of the first legion guys to set sight on the Hoover Dam from exploring the lands west of legion territory).

He makes a point to say that you explored the west (NCR lands) while he explored the east (Legion lands). So if anything, they imply the courier was if not sided with the NCR, at least a citizen of the NCR (NCR follow you through the divide and build a settlement behind you, as you are the only courier to take the shortcut through the dangerous lands of the divide).

Of course, they leave it vague enough for you to roleplay it any way you want. You can even roleplay it that Ulysses has you mistaken for someone else and is just insane (i mean, he IS insane, but he could possibly be REALLY insane).

That's how I chose to play it, because a) I resented the game trying to push *that much* history on my character to begin with, and b) the history it was trying to push on me was incompatible with the history I'd been playing up to that point (99% of the game...I didn't do any of the DLCs until I thought to ask if FNV continued after ending the main storyline or not.)

they were the lone wanderer from fallout 3, they made their way to the majave and deecided to work as a courier to get a couple caps as most were spent on the way there, benny shooting them in the head made tehm forget about their previous life and the khans with benny stole all your cool ♥♥♥♥

Where does that idea come from ? LR ? As far as I can tell they were just some dude who brought stuff to the area, not a founder of anything.

Somehow I`m guessing that, despite there being very little canon information about the Couriers past, this is non-canon.

its the best i could come up with, and also my excuse for maiing my nv character liik the exact same as my fallout 3 character.
besides, in fallout 3 you are the lone WANDERER, you've explored all of dc, why not wander somewhere else, and nv is only set like 5 years after fallout 3

Still outside of the canon regarding what we know about the Courier's past. He was an NCR citizen.
