Always [DETECTED] in certain locations?

I've been replaying this game a few hundred times on different playthroughs but no matter what my sneak skill I am always detected while trying to sneak inside the Jacobstown lodge and the Silver Rush. Hiding in a room with the door closed, nobody in the room, light off with 100 Sneak I am always [DETECTED], was this introduced to prevent people from the well known stealing from the Silver Rush, if so, why is it in the Jacobstown Lodge, kind of removes the entire point of having a sneaky thief character if they don't want you to steal in a game.

According to my friend it doesn't happen to him. Vanilla game or modded it doesn't change, stealth boys aren't helping either, I can sneak in other places though. Any ideas?

I have a similar issue in some places, mainly around the wasteland near the mining town next to quarry junction, sometimes even extending to hidden valley, black mountain, and the big scorpion gulch canyon. Sometimes detected and sometimes caution. I once got bugged into the ground, and saw that a deathclaw was also there under the map. That may have been the issue. Maybe try noclipping around to see if anything is the issue. Otherwise, it could just be script failures or bugs - reinstalling the game might fix it. If a stealth boy isn't doing it, then there is definitely something wrong.

Then just noclip everywhere. In all honesty, there isn't much leeway to hide that you're stealing. It looks a bit suspicious that a person is crouching while stuff the shelves are disapeering.

Yes, because the NPC's definitely have an AI where they actively think about the current state of affairs and what lead to the change in setting. I used to be able to drag all the display stuff into the bathroom and steal it, but now I'm detected no matter where I am in the store. I get that you're here for a giggle and have nothing to offer. But skeletons.

If it is just that much of an issue, use commands to kill all then revive all. I believe it is killall/kill all and resurrect all.

I drag their display to the bathroom. It'll take a while to get hidden, but you'll be able to take everything.

Weird, i know i can sneak and steal in jacobstown no problem. What sneak skill do you have?

Are you dragging items out of view, and then stealing them? I've never done that myself (mostly cus in oblivion if you even drag a stolen item it counts as you stealing it), but i suspect the game might be doing that in order to keep you from exploiting the system and stealing things by dragging them out of sight then stealing them.

It could just simply be a glitch though, dont know how to fix besides killing everyone then reviving them, or restarting all of the npcs through console commands.

Detected with a stealth boy? There is some issue there then, since apparently somebody in that cell has 10+ PE, instantly finding you wherever you are. There are only a few certain enemies with instant-detection range perception, but those are only the OWB boss creatures.

That's what I do, but even in the toilet with the door closed, I am detected.

I've tried it with a couple seperate accounts, 100 Sneak doesn't hide me in Jacobstown Lodge or Silver Rush and anything below has the same effect. It's only a couple locations where I won't be able to hide which made me think it was a patch but I guess not.

I asked my friend while playing and he can steal drag them into the rooms without being detected.

it's a known vanilla bug that appears in new vegas and skyrim. it's within the save file itself from what I have read about it you have to start the game over and pray it doesn't show up again or use YUP mod and hope it doesn't show up still.

So I am a good few years late to when this post was made, but I do have a possible solution. In the situation of stealing from the Silver Rush, drag all of the things you want to steal into the bathroom, and don't crouch. They can only detect you if you're crouched. All you have to do is close the doors, stand up for a good ten seconds, then spam the pick up button (I played with a PS4 controller) and boom. A good way to tell if it's actually working is if you quickly tap crouch. It should say [HIDDEN] for a split second before going back to [DETECTED]. I had to do it a few times to actually make sure it was working.

4 years and the problem was never solved even on multiple reinstalls. I'll never know why the game hated my sneaking in those rooms but it'll never pass. They'd still detect me standing if my memory is good. It's as if everybody had a permanent line of sight on me.
