Camp Searchlight fps issue
For some reason at some point when i was going through the irradiated town i went through the school house i believe it was and then continued traveling for a few seconds after walking out and then i started getting a serious fps drop. Like going from a consistent 60fps (basically locked there at all times and in all situations) down to in the teens. I just ignored it at first and sort of just trucked through it but it actually got worse and worse (down to 1...frame....per....second.....Wow!) I figured it out that it happened whenever i Looked in any direction that's between northeast and east while in the town. So after the it dropped to 1fps i got the ♥♥♥♥ out of there then i turned back and looked at the town in the cardinal direction that it was trying to kill my computer and it was fine... I was only just a little bit outside of the town too. Btw I do have some mods on this game however I haven't added any in a long while (not since i was like single digit level and i'm now level 34) I've been all over the mohave except this place and now this happens... Any ideas?

I'll include my pc specs even though i shouldn't have to since i already explained that my pc handles it fine (locked at 60fps) r9 270x i7 3770k 16gb ram

The game engine is… not really made to handle these kinds of things. Sometime standing in the middle of nowhere in a specific spot and turning the camera at a specific angle hits a few item draw boxes in a way that the pure nothing drops fps to single digits. It's a known error. Also, that town has a constant particle effect on it, even in daylight (it's just invisible), which is another frame rate killer. Especially, sadly, on AMD cards. I love them, but they have been having issues with particle effects for almost two decades now.

One other thing. If you are using the mod Fallout Character Overhaul (FCO), disable the "Glowing Ghouls" option. In Camp Searchlight, this feature can send frame rates straight to single digits. Switching it off brought it back to somewhat normal.

Kudos on your, good man. I was having the same issue as this gentleman, and google led me to this thread. Glowing Ghouls was exactly the issue. Was wondering why there were a number of lights floating about near the mineshafts north of Searchlight as well.

Exact same issue for me--dropping into single digit frame rates in and around Camp Searchlight. Thought the culprit was probably a mod, but wasn't sure which one. Thanks for the information.

Sorry I never bothered to reply this. Not sure why I didn't??? I guess it just never occured to me. However... YOU WERE RIGHT!!!! This WAS the issue. Maybe it was because I figured it out on my own (not sure if I actually figured it out on my own or not but it might be why I didn't reply). In case you did though, thank you! :steamhappy:

i bet the rad scorpions fell through the ground , or you have a mod affecting that cell thats misfiring due to a conflict or faulty load order , go sleep indoors somewhere for 4 days to reset the cells and run loot to check the load order and/or find out if you got a conflict or something

Did you have any companions? I've noticed frame rate drops related to having companions in certains areas of the game.

I just came here two years later to say "Thank you". Your reply is still incredibly relevant and solved my lag spike issue in Camp Searchlight. Now I can look South again without hurting my computer! :happymeat:

This was the fix for me also. Cheers!
Specifically, I disabled the 'FCO - GlowingOne.esp' in my plugins.

THANK YOU! I wanted to give up after several hours of looking for solutions and installing stutter removers because nothing worked. Glowing ghouls were exactly the issue! I knew it was weird from the beginning when moving the camera literally one pixel to Camp Searchlight direction caused the frames to drop from 60 to 5. (Sorry for the almost 1 year necro)

FCO is one of the popular mods even after 6 years.
Thank you. I have never though about that option.
