Ballistic or Energy Weapons?

Hello all,

What type of weapon do you prefer? Do you like the Stopping power of bullets? Or do you like the laser and plasma based way of doing things?

I usually go energy because very few games have them. Plenty of good guns too though. I also take melee on every character.

I would go with Balistic weapons, since Energy weapons got nerfed since Fallout 3. Do you have the expansions? My personal favourite is mele though.

Guns. The only time I've ever significantly used energy weapons was on one character where I did it just to say I had.

When I want some spice, i try other ballistic weapons hah. Currently really liking this Lee Enfield mod. Really satisfying bolt action rifle to use.

I like all the weapon types but my favorite playstyle is to sneak and snipe so I usually end up going with bullet weapons. It's hard to love any other gun once you've got the anti-material rifle.

I agree that the AMR is hilariously fun, and don't even really like energy weapons in general, but in terms of pure efficiency, the gauss rifle is slightly better. It has essentially infinite range (it's possible to see targets the AMR's bullets can't reach), less spread, and a better chance to cripple surviving targets.

It's also the only energy weapon that's as satisfying to fire as a gun, in my opinion. That *CRACK* it makes when you fire it... that's fun.

I do love the Gauss rifle, and it's my go to weapon in Fallout 3. I find the need to reload after every shot a little prohibitive in New Vegas though. Especially when you start running into deathclaws on the regular or get into the dlc and things like explosive rounds start getting involved.

I also find it easier to start out using traditional bullet weapons(Hunting rifle with a scope is my second favorite gun) so by the time I can get the Gauss/AMR I've already put some points into guns. I like leveling up all the non-combat skills so I generally ignore at least one weapon skill.

Also I would say the gatling laser is a lot of fun to use. Plus it looks great with power armor.

It depends on the character. Energy weapons are a great choice for weaker characters due to the overall lower strength requirements for use without penalty.
