SPECIAL Implants...
I was checking the wiki to see about ways to raise my SPECIAL attributes. (For the record, I seem to recall that I was able to max all atrtributes in FO3, but I could be wrong. But it's apparent that I won't be able to do so in this game, correct?)

Anyway, reading about the implants, I have a question...is the number of implants regulated by Endurance (up to 10), or by one-per-attribute (7)? Like, if I have Endurance up to 10 already when I visit the clinic (say I spent Perks on Intensive Training), would I be able to get 10 Implants, doubling-up on some other attributes? Or is it just one for each SPECIAL?

Just curious...food for thought for the future, since I'm no where near ready to go there yet.
Oh...and is my limit determined by my Endurance skill when I first go to the clinic, or will it change accordingly if I increase Endurance later on? Like, if I go to the clinic NOW (with Endurance at 7), I should be able to put an implant in eaqch attribute (assuming I had the money, which I don't). Then later, when/if I increase Endurance thru Intensive Training, could I add a couple more implants? (I'm aware that the implant for Endurance doesn't count towards the cap).

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any tips.

Hah, long post... it`s actually quite short by our standards.

Anyway...

The maximum permanent, that is, unmodified by gear or drugs SPECIAL you can have is 68/70, and one of the 10s has to be STR.

Implants are regulated both by END and on a per attribute basis. You can only ever have your unmodified END, minus the point from the END implant if you have it, total NVMC implants as well as no more than one per stat. Other implants, such as you can get in OWB, do not count towards this limit.

It always checks your current END.

It is impossible to get 10 implants from dr. usunagi even with 10 END simply because she doesn't sell 10 implants. Just 9.

He wondered wether one could double up on stats.

then edit it if you "said" that

Thanks
So with END at 9, I can get nine implants from usunagi...I'm assuming that's one for each SPECIAL (7), plus 2 others...are they SPECIALs, or something else?

And regarding the max of 68 stat upgrades...
40 at start-up
10 from Intensive Training
7 from Implants

where do the other 11 come from? I'm assuming they're game-related rewards or finds, and would require a specific type of play-thru to receive them, yes?

Not SPECIAL, but they are special, indeed. One increases your DT +4 and the other gives a small regeneration effect. Nothing very strong. I think it was 1 hp per 10 seconds or so.

At the end of OWB you can get your real spine back, which gives you the reinforced spine perk, which gives +2 STR, finishing Lonesome Road gives +1 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. point you can spend on anything and about the other 8 I have no idea.

However, I wouldn't recommend wasting a perk slot for "Intensive Trianing" because with all story DLCs, you can only get 25 perks from lvl ups (Without only 15) unlike fallout 3 where you could get a perk per lvl up. Taking all 10 ranks of "Intensive Training" will make you have 10 less perk slots available, which could be filled with more useful perks like "Implant GRX" and "Them's good Eatin'" or "Light Step"

I misremembered. It`s 62, not 68, so you`re missing 5. 2 from the Four Eyes trait, 1 from LR, 2 from OWB.

OK...thanks. That answers my questions, and allows me to plan accordingly.
Yea, I don't plan on using Intensive Training for all 10 ranks...I'll just need it to get END to 9, so that's only one more perk I have to 'waste'...lol. In FO3, I could afford to use a few more of those, but I see your point about having fewer perks in this game.

If you start with 9 and get all implants it will be 10 you know?

Yea...you mean at the beginning of a game when I create my character, right? I could have put some extra in END and take some out of other stats (which I did). I just didn't put 9 into END, but next time I will...it's a good stat to max early anyway.

Not really. The most important stat is Intelligence.
fishhooks Aug 3, 2015 @ 3:17pm
Well, yea, that's actually the one I try to raise as high as possible the earliest I can, since the extra skill points you get are better early rather than later (i.e. get more). So now I have to catch END up.

watch the video on how to get the int implant at lvl 1
talgaby Aug 3, 2015 @ 11:23pm
And this whole planning is pretty much pointless, since SPECIAL in this game is more or less irrelevant. The only thing you need it for is to get perks with SPECIAL requirements, nothing more. ANd wasting this many point in EN just to have 5% better stats is anything but effective.
fishhooks Aug 4, 2015 @ 12:10am
...er....I don't get your point. If 9 END is the only way to get nine additional stat/implant bonuses, then how is it "ineffective"?
