Skill books never appear in inventory?

So about 20 hours in I have just noticed that the number of skill books I have picked up or been given as quest rewards are not in my inventory. I only noticed because I was given the Big Book of Science at HELIOS and immediately looked for it (in the Aid section) only to find it wasn't there.

Has any one else had this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it for future skill books?

Do you have some inventory sorters? It renames them.

You can also check for invisible items with the command player.showinventory. Use PgUp/PgDn to scroll the list in the console.
