Fallout not going full screen correctly.
This is a weird problem, I am wondering if anyone knows of it or has a fix. I am on Windows 8.1, running 2 displays, trying to play on my larger display. When I open Fallout New Vegas all of my settings are set to the maximum graphics settings, and I have full screen selected. When the game starts it is in fullscreen until right before the main menu comes up, then the window border shows up around the screen where it looks like I'm playing it in windowed mode but have it stretched to fill my display. At first I thought it was because I was getting the steam notification on how to open the overlay, but I've turned that feature off and it still happens. Any suggestions on getting rid of that foul border?

Not to sure... maybe try making sure that the resolution of the game matches the resolution that you're using for your screen?
Yeah that was all correct but it was still happening. So got rid of the extra display to see if that would help but it didn't. I decided to just play the game anyway but I was going to come back here to say that didn't work, and when I alt+tab to get to this steam window it just snapped back to the game and the border was gone. Not sure how permanent that fix will be but it will do for now.
If you have Nvidia- go to the video game optimizer and set it to tha recommended specs- wurrked for me
Sounds like it might possibly a display scaling issue. I had something similar when I accidentally messed with some settings. Games like FTL which had a max resolution less than my native had a huge black border around it. I have settings for mine in the Intel graphics panel, you might have something similar too.
i know this is an old thread but i am having this problem and can't find anything online, i literally just reinstalled this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game for the 5th time today trying to get this piece of ♥♥♥♥ to work with mods correctly, seriously is someone in my computer just trying to ♥♥♥♥ with me today? i had 60 mods at least running correctly, then they started to ♥♥♥♥ up now with each clean install its running with this weird border, what the hell?
Set the graphics options again. Try windowed mode, and use some fake fullscreen application to get rid of the borders.

shouldn't there just be a fix for this by now? i mean i can alt-tab but i would think as long as its been out there would have been a patch for it
Since it sounds more like a driver issue, I doubt it will be fixed any time soon, if ever. These old pre-XP engines are never easy to get working on these modern systems, this is why many old games receive a form of emulator or a total fan remake from the ground up.

true, its just never happened before and i haven't had an upgrade to the latest driver yet (i get notifications when its ready) so its not a different driver, or maybe its because i just downloaded it again, i might just work it in borderless windowed so i can efficiently alt-tab to other programs, that does fix that issue correct?
found out what it was.. if you have it in compatibility mode it will go to the border thing, i just unchecked it and it worked fine... 1 problem down...
still isnt working for me anyone help me please ?

I dont have the exact problem but a similar one. For some reason my screen is in fullscreen mode but it wont work it comes these black borders around the square game screen while my screen is 1920 x 1080 these dark borders still come . Some help please
My game just did this, just as Nvidia Geforce experience recognized it. That may be the problem.

You can remove games from Nvidia Geforce experience by removing your game folder location from the settings. Get the ones you want back by setting game locations directly to their individual locations.

However this did not fix my problem. I may have to reinstall the whole game. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Update: Reinstalled the game, vanilla ran fine, installed NVSE, FOMM, 4GFONV, NVSR, New Vegas Configurator (my new target), YUP, MGs Neat Clutter, and NMC. Its somewhere in there.

Launch Fallout>Got to Screen Settings>Panel Scaling to right set to fill and scroll through all the categories and set to fill. Fixed it for me. Also on really high resolutions if you click to 2x everything the borders come back.

It is a common bug, and i'm afraid you'll have to mod it. http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/41381/? I used fake fullscreen mod to make mine work. Goodluck my friend.
