Game crashes immediately when I hit "Play"
Both Fallout 3 and NV crash as soon as I hit the "Play" button on steam. I've tried many "solutions" that I could find online, but none have changed anything. I have reinstalled the game, even completely wiping all mods and saves I've had. I seem to be the only one who can't even load the game before it crashes, any suggestions?

Windows 10. not sure what "Redists" are, so no. And no mods.

Redists are your Redistributables like DirectX setup and C+ setup.
Run all of the redists setups from this file location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Redists

As for windows 10, if running the redists dont work, you can try Exiting steam and running it as admin. make sure to set fnv to run as admin too

None of those worked, to be clear, what I found were 2 redists including "vcredist_x86.exe" and "DXSETUP.exe". I ran both of them as well as admin but no results.

There is a way to put your settings that could help but i dont have a link to it.

Run Steam as admin, make sure that the game's resolution is set to something your monitor can actually display, and ensure that no additional programs are running that can interfere with the game (anything gaming-related from Playfire- and Raptr-like social platforms, Overwolf-like overlays, NVidia's or AMD's optional game performance software, stat trackers, anything that has anything to do with video gaming… also, all multi-display managers).

I'm pretty sure I'm good on all of those.

You wouldn't believe how many people said that and eventually realised they failed the last one…

I'll take your word for it, so let me know if any of these would be considered a "problem". I only ever have Chrome and Steam open, processes would only really include numerous NVIDIA processes, Origin, some microsoft ♥♥♥♥, Chrome, and Cortana from Windows 10.

Anything automatically starting and running in the background? NVidia's game experience or whatever you call it performance software, some new kind of VoIP client like Discord (it hooks into games too), a sneaky Raptr…
I don't know about Origin. It should not pose any problem, but try to kill it for experiment.

deleting the d3d9.dll file in the games folders worked for me
Talgaby is talking about GeForce Experience. If you have it, uninstall it. Also, delete the Xbox and Skype apps while you're at it as I've heard they can cause issues with Windows 10 (though to be fair, the reported issues are mostly crashing in-game related).

Please also make doubly sure you're running Steam and the game's executable as administrator. It may also be worth a shot adding your game's executable to your anti-virus' exceptions list.

Most of the suggestions in the thread should solve your issue. I highly doubt if this is a clean install you'd be missing a master file but you could verify the integrity of the game's cache through Steam too.

Nothing has worked, I can really only assume it's compatibility problems with Windows 10, since I've never experienced this until I upgraded.

I am having the same issue. I literally went to every problem solving route I could and tried everything (including advice outside of these steam forums). I think it is like Jellojack said, it is probably some Windows 10 Compatability problem
