Medicine vs. Survival
Which of these two skills do you believe to be superior over the other medicine or survival skills. Both skills have their benefits and it is time for you guys to decide which is better of the two.

Medicine
  • Increases the effectiveness of stimpaks and doctor kits

  • Has a perk that increase the duration of chems, stealthboys, magazines, and implant grx. Also increases the benefits of food, water, and radaway in hardcore mode

  • Has perk that offsets the rate of which you can become addicted (chem resistant)

  • Has a perk that allows you to see the enemies health and DT (Living Anatomy)
Survival
  • Increasing this skill gives better access to new recipes unlike medicine in which you would have to increase science to craft the other chems.

  • Perk that gives you a near unlimited supply of healing goods one you get the perk (them's good eatin')

  • Gives access to the powerful perk of "Rad child" which can make one near impossible to kill

  • Killing animals, gathering supplies, and harvesting plants can help one to make better food, supplies, or battle oriented goods such as rushing water, healing poultice, caravan lunches, black sausages, and thick pastes.

  • Allows you to craft supplies that can heal your broken limbs instead of having to rely on a doctors bag (with 75 survival skill and the recipe you can craft hyrda for yourself)

So out of some positives I have provided for each skill which do you believe to be the superior skill Medicine with its reliance of stimpaks and chems or survival with its reliance of having to gather supplies to make better goods in order to be effective.

Hope that my editing is not too bad and is easily readable to you guys.

It really depends on wether you`re playing HC or not. In a regular game, where stims are instant and healing limbs requires no special supplies, medicine is a lot more useful than survival at staying in good health. In HC survival healing rapidly eclipses medicine healing and is just more useful in general.

Both. :)
By the way, survival at 60 gives you an effective infinite supply of healing items called gecko kebab.

Yeah actually i use healing poultice for survival healing. and desert salad.

I literally jumped off a cliff was 10% with broken limbs and was back to full in a few seconds with a poultice.

I also get a stockpile of big horn steak which give +3 strength so they kinda carry themselves, for casual eating.

Stimpacks...have no flavor. if I was going to use medicine it would be preventative medicine, med-x, Slasher, Battle Brew.

The last one for Survival is irrelevant, as addiction is an issue in the game so WHY would you focus on Hydra rather than Doctor's Bags?
Medicine has nothing to do with food healing; everything related to food is governed by Survival, even the Hardcore variables.

In Hardcore Doctor's Bags don't heal all your parts; it functions like a Stimpak's limb healing does in Normal. The Bags also have weight, which Hydra doesn't.

Currently going through a Hardcore playthrough and I've been focusing on Doctor's bags as they're way more common to find and you can't get addicted to them.

I usually stuck with Hydra due to the weight...it was more room for ammo that I used to snipe enemies, making things like limb health a joke. :D

The reason I said hydra for survival is that you are able to craft it with high enough survival skill and also that if you invest in survival and put few skill points in medicine doctor bags would not be as effective than using a hyrda.

You can make daturana, which is superior to both hydra and doctor's bags.

Completly forgot about daturana but if you are in middle of a fight and the enemy can easily cripple limbs I would say hyrda is better since it continously heals for a 1 min I believe.Hydra is also better in the case if you have small frame early game and datrurana is not in the mojave wasteland and you would first have to complete honest hearts in order to bring them back and I doubt most people head straight to the honest heart dlc after they finish creating a charcter so they won't recieve daturana for quite some time.

Daturana is 200 limb health instantly, much like a doctor's bag. Hydra is 10 limb health X seconds for a minute, which is worse in a fight.

The optimal solution to crippled limbs in battle is a combination. I also like weapon binding ritual.

Out of all limb healing sources, weapon binding ritual is by far the most common, because of all the super common materials needed to create it.

If an enemy instantly can cripple all 200 limb condition (to a single limb or on rare occasions limbs) the 10 limb health over time would be better due to it constanly increasing health over time rather than an instant heal which could possibly be instantly knocked quickly which could require you to constanly heal limb condition in battle. (Enemies that can quickly deplete limb condition Deathclaws, enemies with miniguns, enemies using AMR, cazador swarms, enemies using riot shotguns, bosses, enemies using explosives, enemies wielding super sledges or machetes).

You can craft a Doctor's Bag with 40 Medicine using a Surgical Tubing, a Medical Brace, Forceps, and a Scalpel.
Discreet_Pigeon Sep 14, 2015 @ 9:27am
Scalpels and forceps are hard to come by.

Not really. You should be able to buy them from medical people and find them anywhere there's a medical area. :P
