NV Crash in Loading screen, Please help
So I am stuck. I have been reading all about crashes and loading issues with Fallout NV. I have tried most of them, atleast the ones I felt were addressed to my issue. None have had any effect.

Fallout NV will boot up fine. Wether it is from the Steam App, the document file, or the Nexus launcher. I always get to the main menu no problem. Also, I can launch either the origianl game or the NVSE to the main menu no problem. However, I am unable to start a new game, or load anything.

I have tried changing some script in the game files:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iUtq1DS2so
I saw this in two different places so I tried it to no avail.

I tried changing the compatablity mode, did not work.

I also downloaded and installed the Nexus launcher. I put NVAC - New Vegas Anti Crash by Queue on and it did not change anything.

I am running a Windows 7 with 8 GB ram and a Phenom IIx2 processor. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics card.

Please help, I would love to play NV.

If it is post-intro crash, there is no real solution. The only thing that works sometimes is to run the installer of DirectX and/or your latest GPU driver right before starting the game.

Fixed

So I tried many things, but the one that seams to get my game to start is a DirectX fix.

I download a file from,
http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34778/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D34778&pUp=1
This is a file that is tricking FNV to think I have an older graphics card. It detects everything just fine on start up, only it presets my game to a lower graphics setting. Still way better than not playing at all.

Not, it did not work with the Nexus Mod Mannager, I had to download it manually, then unpack the zip then copy the dll file into the FNV file (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas)

I hope this helps

I just got a gtx 1070 and my game wouldn't load anymore. I tried everything and it wasn't until I tried this that it worked.

Thank you.

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/? Try this m8. Just download the file and put it in your NV directory. Worked for me. I was able to put in a solid 3-4 hours the other night without any glitches or crashes. Hope this helps!

I had the same bug where it would crash upon loading screens and this was the ONLY thing that fixed it

Just wanted to jump in and say I'm in the same boat here. Couldn't load with GTX 1070 and using this DLL all seems to be working.

Hey guys, i know it might be a little late, but what worked for me was downloading this file called d3d9.dll
link: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34778/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D34778&pUp=1

You have to manually download it and put it in your Fallout New vegas map ( where FalloutNVLauncher etc is located )

i also have put FalloutNV.exe in compatability mode for Windows 7, tried it first with XP service Pack 3 but for some reason it works with Win7 compatability.

Hope this is can help someone out

Everyone here keeps saying that this is the big fix that is the only thing that works, but it does nothing on mine... I just keep crashing on startup...

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
