Legendary Bloatfly OWB
So I think I finally ran into something that kills me: Legendary Bloatfly. I'm lvl 39 with 96 guns in Desert Ranger Combat Armor and the thing a) 1-shots me and b) I barely make a dent with the Gobi rifle and slasher and other buffs. Playing on very hard.
WITHOUT SPOILERS, how did you deal with it? AMR and match grade bullets? I mean this thing is a mean piece of mob...

Don't play on very hard, it's just reversed cheating. Doesn't actually make the game more difficult, just more tedious.

As for the Legendary Bloatfly, I've killed it with the Ratslayer once. Whittle down it's health bar from a distance and you're pretty much safe.

Yeah, maybe so. I was just getting a little tired of murdering most things from the beginning and the very hard just makes certain encouters interesting, like the overseer in the vault with his cannons.
Guess I have to see if I can make a dent with the AMR.

I don't remember if its attack falls into the 'energy' category, if it is then an atomic cocktail would help a lot.

Are you able to get sneak crits against it from the ledge above? If so sneak crit, retreat and wait till it forgets, rinse, repeat might be effective?

It will essentially one or two shot any character, no matter what armor you wear, or how high your level is.

You have to take a couple shots, dash in behind a pillar, wait for it to shoot and miss, and repeat for some time before it dies.

I find that using melee weapons or unarmed weapons work well while using one dosage of turbo psycho and slasher. If you fear getting hit use med-x also. (note: with their perks or if you have 50 points in melee with melee weapons that can knock enemies down in VATS ex: bumper sword)

At least in this game when increasing difficulty the computer doesn't turn into a cheating bastard where the enemy gets a totally unfair advantage such as 100% accuracy with all weapons or deal hidden extra damage with weapons I am looking at you Point Lookout.

True enough, but I still consider it a bland way to make things more "difficult." It literally just buffs enemies and nerfs the player. No more enemies. No improved AI. All enemies are still have completely the same strengths and weaknesses. Just more HP and more damage. All formulas for stats are the same. Poisons are still mere nuisances instead of being dangerous. Items are still found in the same quantities. Bartering functions exactly the same way. Etc. etc. etc.

Ahh, brilliant idea. I was hoping for something like the atomic cocktail idea. Thanks

It would have been much more interesting if enemies got better weapons, armor, ammo, and etc. when the difficulty was increased. An example is that freeside thugs would say carry a 9mm submachine gun and have leather armor on hard or a hunting rifle and metal armor perhaps on very hard and would use something like hollow points or armor piercing bullets on higher difficulties.
TL:DR: Essentially enemies should have a modified weapon list on higher difficulty and possibly animals just have a weak poison damage or something tacked on to their regular melee attack.

Indeed. There should be something more differentiating the difficulty levels than having to fire more or less bullets to kill stuff.

Use the ledge above or the small entrance that leads to its cavern. It's not a difficult fight at all, just very long and tedious.
If you have some half-decent energy weapons skill, there is an experimental tesla cannon above the ledge of the entrance to that cave, in he overworld. It is slow to fire but packs quite a punch.
There's also the Turbo-Psycho-Minigun tactic I prefer. :D

have sex with it. Then devour it like a spider.
