7 years later, Fallout: The Frontier
What's everyone thinking of the mod so far? Seems like borderlands-tier writing with some pretty glaring bugs and scripting problems. cutscenes seem completely alien to fallout and overall haven't met a single interesting character or made a choice I cared about. am I a jaded fallout boomer or what? curious to know how everyone's experience is with this.

Tbh if I knew it was gonna be like this, I wouldn't have bothered... like I appreciate the effort but I don't play fallout for the 15 minute, no-choice cutscenes.

Also really hate being the "famous courier" when I made a new save for this mod, skipped to level 11 and have done nothing at all. This just ruins the whole flow and I can't take anything anybody is saying seriously. Yes, thanks NCR for wasting half an army just to save some random chick from the mojave...

edit: forgot to mention it's also really difficult to enjoy the mod at all when every fight I drop to like 20 fps and can't hit ♥♥♥♥ without VATS.

I hate the heavily scripted sequences, but once I got far enough in the story that I could start exploring the open world freely I was having a blast.

When does this happen? Might stick with Frontier until I get to this point before I decide if I want to bother finishing or not.
I went in blind as well, all I knew going in was
1. the NCR was in it
2. the Legion was in it
3. the Brotherhood was in it (under a new name)
that was literally all I knew, I didn't spoil myself and evidently was not prepped for coping with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ mod like the people who got spoiled did. the Courier is not the Nerevarine and it's really cringe that they consider you as important. the Courier is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mailman who is either a politically-minded free agent or an apolitical mercenary, neither of which is very trustworthy.
my PC is very middling, but the performance on this mod is trash regardless. I have an rx 480 and a ryzen 7 1700. the game averaged at about 120 fps in the base game, and at about 30 in Frontier.

you would think they would try and appeal to people like me: i.e. people who still play Fallout excluding normies playing 4 and 76.

the ending completely misses the point of the entire vanilla game. old world gadgets are useless and only further cement society in the apocalypse. this mod just confirms fallout modders are below even midwit status.

I have not been enjoying my time with this game very much, mostly due just to the writing and how the creators seemed to have missed why NV is so fun, also it kinda feels like everyone is drooling on the page of the "courier"'s main story which is weird cause my characters wasn't a courier in my playthrough but whatever. but on a funnier note, a lot of the more out there stuff (lizard people and the dream sections), while horribly out of place in fallout and kinda miss the point of its "fantasy" setting, make me feel like i'm playing a TES:Oblivion fan fic game and i kinda found enjoyment in that. Why didn't they just make an oblivion mod? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lizards is par for the course there.

it's also strange since not many people even refer to you as "the Courier" in FNV. The only people who really do are Christine (after Dead Money), Joshua Graham (like once), and Ulysses. The only times you are ever called "Courier" is in place of your name when the word "you" is not sufficient when being addressed by someone. even Mr. New Vegas described your exploits as being performed by an "unknown assailant" or "private contractor" cause people really don't know WHO is doing anything in the Mojave, all they know of the Courier for sure is that he/she came back from the brink of death in Goodsprings and made a full recovery. "THE COURIER" is not some legendary title, it's your old occupation and only the 3 main faction leaders even regard you as anyone larger than life, to the common person you are just a mercenary, either loyal to a cause or loyal to getting paid.

comparable to hunt down the freeman really
NoodleKiller Jan 21, 2021 @ 3:08pm
Yeah, i mean obviously "The Courier" is a legendary title to the series, in real life, as a descriptor for the protagonist. but in universe it means basically nothing. but it was honestly more jarring when people brought up characters from previous games like legendary characters? Like some dude mentioned "The Vault Dweller"TM but like dude who the ♥♥♥♥? A lot of people are vault dwellers, or came from vault dwellers, that's the plot, almost every major faction started at a vault so why would that be a legendary title of some random dude from 100 years ago who got a water chip one time and had to shot some guys to do it, and why do you know him?

Hunt down the Freeman is the best game ever made because it has Keemstar as President of the US.

What can I say? They are indeed lore friendly given that we had talking deathclaws in F02, or so the devs say. :steamfacepalm:

I also like that they (and you) call yourself Courier Six. It only made sense that Ulysses would use that title.

I like how if you keep going around yelling "I am the Chosen One" people just laugh at you.

The more I read about this mod the more I want to play it. Could be entertaining, even if for a completely different reason than what the devs had in mind. I'm a sucker for cringe.
