Let me &%@#8! sneak past the Ghost People
Hey there.

Is there a fix to sneaking past the ghost people in Dead Money?

I'll preface this by saying: I know how to sneak. Regular game, it's great, keeping to the shadows, getting literally five feet away without anyone watching, light armor, low carry weight, 100 sneak skill, I got it.

But when I get to dead money, suddenly whenever I sneak I'm almost always in [caution] mode, even though ghost people are nowhere nearby, I'm not even in line of sight, and I'm wearing light armor. Like, nothing has changed except I'm in the DLC and suddenly it's nearly impossible to sneak past the ghost people--and it's obviously something you're supposed to be able to do quite easily. Is there a bug I'm running into? I even have the ghost people perception mod from the Nexus, but they're acting exactly like they did before I installed the mod.

It's extremely irritating, and I know from experience it winds up biting me in the ass in the later stages of Dead Money, when it's literally impossible to sneak past the crowds of ghost people, because for some reason they just ~sense~ that you're around, and you end up just having to sprint past and hope for the best.

It's a glitch. Their PE should be 0, so you can sneak past them all the time, but instead they are perfectly aware. Since I experience the intended way, meaning I always can sneak easily, I assume one of the patches listed in the stability thread fixes it.

As far as I've been told, the engine doesn't know what to do with a value of 0, so it treats it as infinite or very high instead. There's a standalone fix here: nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54401

There is always the "kill them" option.

Pretty much, since they can't be reasoned with. :P

The bear traps fists work well against them even if your not an unarmed character. With that weapon against ghost people, crippled limb=death no matter what health they were at. Luckily that weapon has a high chance of doing just that.

the police pistol has a high chance of bonus limb damage and works at range.

the automatic rifle rolls alot.

but what I generally do is upgrade my holorifle, shoot them from long range (body shot) they go down, then I run up and hit them with a knife.

OK just did dead money. Mainly used the caravan shotgun you get in the first area near one of dean's stashes. Got close, unloaded 2 rounds the thing was normally dead or on the ground. then I knifed it. problem solved.

later when you get ammo and all the holorifle upgrades theres that. but yeah glories of shotgun stealth.

and they aren't... as aware as say deathclaw. Didn't have too much trouble sneaking a round them. at least to get close enough to inflict large amounts of shotgun damage sneak attack crit.
