Ghouls A Playable Race?
Do you think this feature should be added to the next fallout?

I doubt Bethesda would be arsed to rewrite potentially contradictory dialogue or rewrite how certain quests would work if the player was a ghoul. Like a Tenpenny Tower situation.

Seems like a good idea for the NEXT Fallout game, Makes me think that Bansheebot only read the title.

It is possible, but that really would need branching dialogue trees for that occasion. And we all know how excellent Bethesda is at writing dialogue trees.

Or that MacchuS doesn't understand what examples are.

You know, like how I said that if Bethesda wrote a quest LIKE Tenpenny Tower where the player being a Ghoul screws up the whole script, Bethesda's preferred, and much simpler solution would be to not allow you to be a Ghoul in the first place.

Some mods do let you play as a Ghoul. Children of the Wasteland adds a Ghoul-child race.

I've gotten two but one has missing textures for hands and the other one has terrible textures for hands. Plus you still absorb radiation. If Bethesda were to add them they should have unique dialouge and they wouldn't be able to absorb radiation. To even that perk out some places/factions will not accept you

I think it would be cool, but it may be too difficult to deal with. Most gouls are really old. I am not sure how they would start a story that would work for both Gouls and Humans. Also, they would have to be careful with the quests. Like someone else mentioned, the Tenpenny story wouldn't work.

Do Gouls grow up? I didn't think they were able to have babies because of the radiation according to the lore.

That lore was thrown out the window by Bethesda when they turned ghouls into zombies, because they needed zombies for the CoD kiddies. Now if you drop a thermonuclear bomb on someone, instead of vaporising (s)he instantly turns into a ghoul. So you can have as many ghouls (preferably feral ones, so now you can even ride the Walking Dead wave too) as you want.

It's cosmetic in nature, mostly. I haven't really used CotW too muhc other than to test it out, make sure it's working properly and see what character creation is like.

And like talgasby said, Bethesda tossed almost all of the Ghoul lore when they took over the series, so what Ghouls can and can't do is really anyone's guess.

He's right though. If ghouls were playable that would cause issues in the storyline.

Im sure its not as big an issue as you 2 are making it out to be.. Ill reference The Elder scrolls series, Especially Argonians...

The issue is that being a Ghoul isn't a good thing. If you only look the fact that they should be immune to radation, there are situations in the game where part of the danger *is* the exposure to radiation, or massive amounts of it, like in 3. Playing a Ghoul in that situation means several aspects of the game need to be either heavily rewritten or completly written from scratch. The least of which is dialog options. On the more difficult side, you'd need the game to be able to distinguish between more than just PC gender, but if the player is Ghoul as well, that takes rewriting the code for all NPC interactions as well as the game itself in order to have it know not to bother with radiation notices. And every change you make to one part of a game, even minor ones, can lead to having to change several other parts of the game that will create conflicts and errors. So even minor changes cause big problems.

So i dont see how that is an issue in an entriely new game. Argonians in The Elder scrolls games are immune to poison and are lizards, and Khajit are Cats, they dont have a problem in that series why would it be an issue here? I could understand OP was talking about adding it to Fallout 3 or NV but he isnt, nor am i.

But are there individual interactions with NPCs based on your race, or are they the same for every race?

As for adding this to FO4, again, it's mostly to do with the fact that, according to canon, Ghouls aren't meant to be a playable race. FO3 tossed a lot of that canon, but NV tried to bring it back.
