Gamepad disconnects as soon as i plug it in
I have a Windows/Xbox controller that I've been using for a while now. I even played more than 100 hours of New Vegas using it (I'm left handed so KB+M is really difficult for me). And recently I got a bunch of mods (YUP, FCO, NSMC textures, Nevada Skies, EVE, WMEx) and installed everything properly using Nexus Mod Manager. Not a single problem with any of them.

Now everytime I use my controller it disconnects within a second on me plugging it in. If I start the game with it already plugged in, it doesn't register it (the mouse pointer is visible upon startup). if I unplug it and plug it in again, it registers for a second - the "360 controller connected" dialogue box pops up, and the mouse pointer disappears. But after that, the mouse pointer becomes visible again, and when I close the dialogue box, the "360 controller disconnected" dialogue box pops up immediately afterwards.

It's only happening to New Vegas, too. Calibrating the gamepad (run program joy.cpl) shows it's working fine, and I can use it to play other games (Metal Gear Solid V, Team Fortress 2) without any problems. Any ideas how to fix this? Thank you.

Apparently, one of the mods really does not like peasant sticks. Which is okay, but the interesting thing is that the game is supposed to favour controllers over the mouse and many users have the problem that is the exact opposite of yours.
The standard route is to disable any mods that may have something to do with controls and user interface, especially if they add functions that require setting their own dedicated button. But you may have to resort to total manual deletion and starting over with reinstall and re-modding carefully.
