Best early companions?

Just got the game would like to know who's the best starting companions that are close to the start I cba traveling here there and everywhere to get a companion at the start

Imo, if you walk way south from goodsprings to primm as npc's suggestion, it'd be this...

Ed-E. He sleep in primm, south from the goodsprings. At post office, If you can repair, so do it asap. High dps, high hp and expand radar and battle theme. Yes f ckin best til the end game.

Boone. Novac is easy to access. You can do his recruit quest in novac and complete it pretty fast so he is the 2nd best in early game imo.

Veronica. Walk north from novac long away to 188 trading point to find this girl. Talk with her nicely and she will come with you. Very easy to get but she's in the middle way to vegas so...may be count as early companion ?

Cass. You must run around from outpost to caravan office and back again, pretty far near vegas so i'd call she's a mid game quest. Good with shotgun, a bit tank but still, boone or raul is better for me.

Raul. First met at black mt. But you must go recruit him at his shack which in the north of the map so i cannot call it an early recruitment.

Lily. Run up north west to jacob town is not a shot walk from goodsprings so it's pretty more a mid game companion.

Rex. Go to freeside to the kings. It about to enter to vegas so it'd call a mid game companion...he's not a fully biological dog but a cyborg one tho, if you don't mind his brain glowing in the dark lol.

The closest one is definitely Raul, a little past Sloan. Needs good sneaking and repair or a lot of combat to get him though.
ED-E is technically closer, but it is more like a floating junk heap and also fills the "other companion" slot.
Veronica is a little more of a walk, but she can be, if her AI wills it, worth it as she can wreck any enemy if she is in the mood for it. Especially if later you give her some decent power fist upgrade, like a super-heated saturnite.

I never really bother with companions at the start, instead vouching for a stealth build while I increase my combat skills through leveling. Then I'll usually pick up ED-E, especially after his upgrades found in the Divide and through his companion quest. Simply for the enhanced sensors perk.

The problem with Boone early game: if you walk 20ft south of Novac, you'll have hit squads chasing you 5 min. later. It's simply not economical, too many resources spend. Later, if you give him the AA and 2k surplus ammo, he's a friggin aim bot.

That's sadly a big *if*. From suddenly running off gods knows where to deciding to crouch and block in front of a death claw, her (unarmed) AI is plain broken. Thought it might be a mod issue, but recently watched a console streamer with zero mods, same behaviour. Later, if I can afford the ammo, I give her a LAER, she's a beast with it.

So I go with Eddi (after a short dip into the Divide to get the first upgrade) and Cass.

She's at the 188 trading area, which is pretty far if you're going to make the southern loop back up. But if you know how to cut your way north at the beginning, you'll be able to walk there quick and easy.

Well he was already mentioned: Raul - But you never said why to get him:
1. 50% lesser usage - Thru his Perk your Stuff wears down 50% lesser (imo one of the best Perks you can get thru Human companion)
2. His Story and Quest is in my Opinion one of the Best, makes him even more usefull and he has very nice Ending if you help him :-)

It isnt by the way that hard to get to him, just sneak up the right side of the Montain and not thru the Radiated streets ;-)
Another thing is get rid of the Mutants, there a high Science skill helps ;-)
