Fallout: New Vegas not launching properly on clean install.
Whenever I launch on steam or gog, and I click play on the launcher, I get the first loading screen of the game with the copyright stuff and then it tabs out and says windows installer- preparing to install and just hangs until I force close the game.

Originally I had the issue on gog, uninstalled there to try it on steam and literally the same error is happening. No clue why its happening, any help would be greatly appreciated.

uninstalled through steam, then manually deleted all files that were left over. if it's worth anything this is what the event viewer said:

The program FalloutNV.exe version 1.4.0.525 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Oh dear. One of the dependency libraries is not present or installed incorrectly. Since it is this early, it can be either the Visual C++ or the .NET 4.x libraries.
Also could be some faulty driver, maybe on the sound.
so I read what you said, reinstalled the game and noticed that the vcredist folder wasn't there when I downloaded the game. I scoured around the net for the correct one new vegas uses, downloaded it, uninstalled the previous one, installed the new one and still having the same problem.

If it is really a mix-up in the dependency libraries, sometimes that is impossible to untangle without hours of work or a full clean system reinstall. The only thing that is still relatively viable is trying to uninstall ALL vcredist versions from your computer, then download the entire package again and install all of them. And pray that all installers run from start to finish.

Same with .NET, although there you only need to install the latest one.
Okay, I guess I’ll give that a go and see. The one really weird thing I don’t get is no matter if I download it on GOG or steam, the game never actually downloads the redist thing at all, even though it used to.
