Should I play the standalone Fallout 3 or try TTW?
(Yeah, I know I should post this in FO3 forum, but since this forum seem more active and I believe you all have played FO3, so sorry for any inconvenience I caused)
Played a heavily modded Fallout 3 for about 60+ hours years ago, run well only crash once, pick it up today but can't launch it, a cmd window keep pop up then crash and I can't do anything to stop it except restart my pc. So I decided to reinstall and start it over, then I notice the famous TTW, run FO3 in NV engine and get all the cool stuff like ironsight and hardcore mode plus numerous bug fix seems great, but there are something still bother me:
First, when search the internet for similar topic, I notice someone said that the AIs in TTW is broken, especially in NV part, and other mentioned NV items appear in FO3 part brought some balance issue, is these problems truth? If so, are there any mods to fix?
Second, it made clear that FO3 mod can't run in TTW and need convert, how difficult it is? (AWOP and DC interiors all already have TTW version so at least two less things to worry)
I appreciate for any advice.
(Well, I know the obvious answer is just install a seperated FO3, but I don't know if this can be done with steam or if I need to get a DRM-free version from gog, heard that one is more stable)

TTW is a godsend for many. I would definetly recommend it if you can't get F3 to run normally. I don't use it since I can run 3 fine and I like non-canon Fallout separate from canon Fallout but theres still many pros.

I'm not a mod maker, so I dont know how difficult converting a F3 mod for TTW is, but I guess the general rule is if it's small shouldn't be too hard. But again don't take my word for it I use mods I don't make them. I've seen many many mods that are just converted 3 mods for TTW so with luck you might find a lot of mods you want.

As for balance, I heard mixed things. Some say you level up EXTREMELY slow but others say that's a good thing. So it depends on how you play. Since you start with 3, by the time you reach NV it becomes a cakewalk. I think theres mods that make the levels restart once you make it to the mojave but idk if there are any leveling mods. Fallout 3 does get noticeably easier with NV gameplay and items but then again 3 wasnt exactly the hardest Fallout.

I searched again and it is truth that you carry the level from 3 to NV, and there is no mod to reset it, only mods that add some debuffs when first enter NV. But they said you can just play the FO3 part and don't go to NV. So I decide to give TTW a try, Thnaks for the reply!

BTW, what mod organizer do you use? I wanted to use MO2, but althought MO2 page state it support FO3, NV and TTW, someone said that MO2 have issue with NV

I use FOMM Fork but I never had an issue with MO2 when I used it before. Then again I hardly used it I switched to FOMM like a couple months later. Best bet would be to read the TTW install instructions carefully, as its website would have more answers than Steam. Before you mentioned it I always thought TTW had to be manually installed.

The current version of MO2 works just fine with NV. That's the least of your concers.

But you'll have to start from scatch if you want to mod TTW. With most of your mods from F3 not working anymore.

TTW changes the gameplay. They tried to rebalance it, but you still have access to a lot more weapons and perks, and the enemies are wet tissue paper against your weapons. If you only care about the story, then TTW is a good choice, but if you want any kind fo challenge in gameplay without it turning into a routine borefest, then play the original.

If I just play in FO3 area, would balance still be a problem?

FO3 and FONV have pretty different gameplay. Running TTW is going to change that.

TTW can be a lot of fun.

But if you want the experience the real game, then I would say no, don't use it.

Some people like FO3's gameplay, some people like FONV's gameplay.

Some of these things can still be compared in TTW, like the core story, the environments, the peripherals, but other things like the way stealth is handled, the way damage is calculated, the way guns damage works, is drastically different.

Contrary to what the people crying on the message board believe, it's not hard to get FO3 to work on Windows 7 or higher.

Yes. The levelled lists for item drops are shared. You still see the entire FO3+FONV perk tree. Enemies still lack damage threshold and only have small resistance. Until you unlock the Broken Steel tier random enemy spawns, you can murder anyone with the starting melee weapon.
