Elijah dialogue crackling
Just started Dead Money and Elija's dialogue is crackling like mad, he tends to talk a lot so you imagine this gets old fast. I first thought it had something to do with voice distortion but editing fFilterDistortionGain in the .ini does nothing, nor does this problem happens with the brains in Big MT or people wearing power armour. I tried enabling bMultiThreadAudio, increasing the cache size and I don't have any mods that screw with audio. This playthrough is also freshly modded so everything is up to date and I'm not running any mods that I usually don't. I even deleted the Dead Money Sound BSA and verified the game through Steam and it didn't do anything. I'm at a total loss.

To put the cherry on top, I've not been able to find anything about this issue anywhere, which has me pretty worried I'm just gonna be stuck with Elijah blowing out my speakers (or my headset, doesn't make a difference either). Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening and how I could fix it? Dead Money is my favourite DLC and I'd hate to have it ruined by this.

Try this: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61265
Otherwise, I am afraid, it may be audio driver or simply speakers issue.

Thanks, I gave that mod a shot but it didn't fix the problem. I'm pretty sure it's not my speakers since the crackling also happens when I plug in my headset. My audio drivers are up to date as well.

I'm pretty sure the problem is just how Elijah's audio was mixed. aka, made VERY LOUD causing clipping. Though in my experience that's only the case with his Fountain Hologram dialogue.

The Draugr in Skyrim when they use Unrelenting Force actually have a similar issue.

Yeah, I've noticed it happening during his louder dialogue as well. I've tried pretty much everything and I can't fix it so I guess I'm just stuck with it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply though.

This should correct your problem : https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/65922

It's indeed a distortion problem.
I had the same effect with some npc's in the base game, usually the ones wearing masks like NCR veterans or white glove; but now with Elijah raping my ears it was unbearable.
This mod fixed it.

edit: btw talgaby, I've seen you on many threads helping people, you rock my dude

Late reply, but this is likely caused by the JIP LN NVSE mod. The bVoiceModulationFix setting adds a distortion effect for talking activators and holotapes. You can turn it off in the ini.

Man, you are the best. I just recently got to this part and I was like "WTF?! It has never before sounded like that."

Checked Nexus page and someone recently brought it up, so it seems still to be a problem.

You're welcome! Several people reported Elijah crackling over the years, and JIP LN still gets regular updates (it just got one yesterday). I think Jazz knows at this point. Maybe he just doesn't want his hard work on the modulation effect to be ignored ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Who really knows?

Just FYI this did not fix the issue for me.

Ok for anyone like me that can't find the ini file, you probably just don't have it. Go to the JIP LN NVSE Plugin Page [www.nexusmods.com] and just download the JIP LN Settings INI from the files section :lunar2019grinningpig:. Now you should be able to go to [YourModFolder]\falloutnv\JIP LN Settings INI-58277-56-24-1691190751\nvse\plugins where jip_nvse.ini will be. You can use Vortex to open it in File Explorer if you don't know where your mod directory is. :battlescool:
