Which companion?

If I remember correctly, there is no sprint in vanilla New Vegas. Mods added it.

The nearest companion is in Primm and you need to have some skills or special items to repair it.

The vanilla game does not have sprint, that function was added in FO4 first as a base function (considering it is an FPS, while this game is a cRPG). You have to use mods to add sprint. (Although you can cross the entire map diagonally under 15 minutes, plus there is quick travel, so not like you spend much time travelling…)

Jsawyer ultimate or project Nevada both add sprint that uses Ap as well as many other features (and both mods you can configure and turn off or on features like sprint or grenade hotkey, etc.)

There is no sprint in Vanilla NV. I suggest The Project Nevada Mod.

Just install the Solid Project mod.

you need a script extender mod to sprint. sprinting and grenade hotkeys are staples of a First person shooter not a RPG.

though I do understand when you go to melee an enemy with a gun and he runs away from you, while shooting at you as fast as you can approach him.

that....shouldn't be a thing.

New vegas was the first Bethesda engine game that actually slowed your backwards running speed, just not as significant as it should have. Fallout 3 or oblivion in comparison is 100% speed backwards while new Vegas is like 75%.

Solid Project actually has a sprint animation for both first and third person, I recommend using that in addition to PN.

project nevada adds sprint. you can adjust PN settings using the mod configuration menu.
who needs sprinting when you can reload dash everywhere?

PN has sprint, but it doesn't have it's own animations for it

I see...have you made sure these are vanilla companions. and there is no sprint in vanilla vegas i prefer you download a project nevada on nexus it gives you sprint and more and search the companion names on there as well
