dlc and companions/gear
After starting my playthrough with just the basegame, I'm now adding the dlc. Can I bring my existing companions and gear with me in the dlc? Or do I need to dismiss/store them before I enter?

Also, I'm around lvl 20 and working on the BOS/Veronica quests before going to find Benny at the Legion camp. Is it too late to to do the easier dlc HH? And, should I wait until I finish BOS and Benny quests before doing the other dlc? Thanks in advance for your help!

All the dlc scale up with your level unlike in the base game. So you can do honest hearts whenever you want.

Each dlc is different though. Dead Money you lose all gear and companions (you get new companions for the dlc) until the dlc is over. It also completes Veronica's story in a way (if you heard about her grandpa and the last bos elder). It's also the only dlc you can't go back to after its done.

Honest hearts has a weight limit, so you can take gear but only a limited amount (strong back perk or survival skill high enough will allow you to take more). You can't take companions, but there's 2 companions you can travel with while in the dlc (but you're trapped there until its over and you can't do any of the side quests after its over).

Old world blues you can take everything with you, but no companions and you're stuck there til its over (but you can do all the side quests after it's over, and travel back and forth freely).

And lonesome road you get to keep all gear, I'm pretty sure you can't take companions, but you can leave whenever and travel back and forth freely. You do get another ede companion though and once the dlc is done you get an upgraded ede companion in the base game (if you haven't got him killed in the base game).

You cannot take companions on Lonesome Road, correct. After all, it is called LONESOME Road with a reason. =)
