Just find out everything you can and make the choice yourself.
If you play the game, they'll tell you all about their 'lore' and 'loot.'
Caesars Legion - Emulates fascist Italy and follows Darwinian principles.
Mr. House - Basically neofeudalism. With the casinos functioning as fiefs.
Independent (Yes-Man) - Kind of self-explanatory. Basically kick out all the other major factions.
No real loot differences although Caesars Legion is definitely more melee centric, while NCR tends towards firearms. But their are members on both factions who cross-over. Many high-ranking Legion soldiers use firearms and powerfists (unarmed).
But yeah. As previously stated, its mostly a roleplaying thing.
The Boomers - Xenophobic tribals who enjoy blowing everyone up in their territory
Brotherhood of Steel - Technocratic military junta
Followers of the Apocalypse - Anarchist doctors, scientists and humanitarians
Great Khans - Tribal raider group, also major drug runners
Enclave remnants - Remains of the presidential dictatorship, The Enclave
Then you have the 3 Casino families: The Chairmen (embody a cool 50s Vegas attitude), Omertas (mobsters and slavers) and the White Glove Society (posh "upper" class).
Some of these minor factions are allied with the main factions. Its up to you to figure out how you will deal with them though.
The NCR gives you access to more stores and a few service rifles and stimpacks for various quests.
The Legion doesn't give you as much but you can basically just murder and steal the NCR's stuff if you side with them.
NCR is a capitalist Republican's wet dream. Infinite troops to use to conquer stuff, the entire government in the pockets of the wealthiest ranchers who use the poor locals as a legalised slave labour, and taxes for everyone, except the ruling class—where you may find yourself on an equal footing with a Hillary voter.
Legion if you are a die-hard Trumpist. Total disregard for women, concentrating all the power in the hands of one family, and ensuring that everything you do is good for business, damn everything else. Also, crowning yourself a venerable god-king.
House if you are a Libertarian. You delegate all governing to people who are interested in it while continue building your futuristic empire that is part altruism, part philanthropy, and part showing everyone that you are good enough to show that you are better than everyone else. Also, running the entire region as a corporation. (In which regard, a Trumpist can somewhat agree with you.)
Yes Man if you are functionally brain-dead and think you can run an entire small empire without any sort of political, economical, or social qualifications, listening to the advice of an incredibly dubious individual who is more than likely just using your stupidity to further its own goals. Essentially, pick Yes Man if you are Trump or if you think this is still the early 90s and anarchism is cool.
If you are for Bernie or just have any sort of human decency in you with some lean towards the left, then you are screwed. After all, this is a world that mostly comes from the McCarthyism, so anything left from the mildly fascist is considered dangerous and the enemy of the state.
Followers of the Apocalypse my man. They are basically anarcho-communists and even though they are a minor faction, they have the best chance of changing the NCR for the better from within.
Also, why does everyone keep equating Mr. House with libertarianism? He wants to rule over Vegas the way a monarch rules over territory. They see themselves as altruistic, and "doing whats good for mankind", but thats hardly libertarian. A libertarian values liberty and the rights of the individual to govern themselves. Doesn't seem like anything that Mr. House is doing would correspond with that. That's why I like to classify him as a neofeudalist, with the casinos functioning as something akin to fiefs, paying tribute to Mr. House. Mr. House doesn't really have a lineage though, unless the Courier counts.
lol why do you have to drag politics into everything we play games to escape this crap go cry on tumbler
Also, Fallout itself started as a sociological satire, a parody of the 1950s right-wing America and its politics. Before Bethesda arrived, of course.
Game is basically telling you that NCR are the good guys (90% of NPCs have positive opinion about them) and Legion are evil (only 1 person in whole game has a positive opinion about them). Other two options are somewhere in the middle.
I’d say most people are likely to go Yes Man route. Conquering New Vegas by yourself has an appeal to it, especially when picking between the three factions can be hard due to them not being black or white. This is certainly reflected in the achievements for this game.
^This. Only ones who support NCR are NCR soldiers, settlers and politicians. Most wastelanders in Vegas just see the NCR as the lesser of two-evils and just want to be left alone by both factions.
Well first you have to assume that Bernie fights for decent ordinary people
