BUG: items disappear from inventory!

Although FO:NV is notoriously unstable, this is a new bug I've never heard of. I'm lvl12 in Freeside, pursuing the Debt Collector quest. If I collect caps from either Grecks or Santiago, then when I exit the dialog, weapons are missing from my inventory (even the one I had equipped!)

I had to abandon my last game because it was crashing so often it became unplayable. So this playthrough is completely vanilla with no mods at all. I even ran Steam's file validation before starting the game. After discovering the bug, I tried restarting the game, loading different saves before loading the current one, even going back to an earlier save and rebooting the PC, but the bug still happens every time. Finally I tried first installing the 4GB patch, then NVAC, but nothing has helped.

I'll try some more work arounds (like unloading my inventory somewhere before completing the quest objectives). This is my favorite fallout game, but I can no longer finish a game before it becomes so unstable that it is simply unplayable

UPDATE: it appears the items don't permanently disappear. The PIP Boy won't scroll beyond a certain point so it looks like everything beyond that point is gone. But if you have one of the missing weapons unholsered, you'll notice that it's still in your hand even though you can't see it in your PIP Boy. Closing and re-opening the PIP boy seems to fix it? Weird.

If you carry everything and the kitchen sink, it can happen, yes.

Hell I recently had a character head vanish. Just save, go to main, reload and voila! No idea what causes it though. Sometimes a 4 hour session, other within 5 min

In your case, my guess would be that you use FCO. It can produce the most interesting bugs,

This isn't what the thread was about, and you're a few years late, but I think you should contact Steam support if a game has vanished from your account.

in my case - my companions inventory vanished some items randomly, i was wondering why this or this item is missing even me my companion and stash hasnt the item. after testing some things out it all starts on giving companions items that just randomly disapear. makes the game completly unplayable for me after i figured it out.
