Christine's COS silencer rifle or Gobi Campaign Scout rifle?
I prefer gobi but wanted to see your opinions as well.

Christine's because I hardly use snipers but when I do its for stealth
Christone's has a much higher base damage and critical chance, the Gobi has a better critical bonus damage, magazine size, and durability. Christine's is silenced, Gobi can shoot faster.
It is an old dilemma and usually boils down to whether you want durability or being stealthy. But usually Christine's tends to win.
Gobi is easy to access but need lock pick skill to take. Christine's CoS is better in sneak killing but need to fight through the whole dlc to take back to main game.... If you are at the starting point, they are both pain in different way.

For the gun itself, i prefer C's CoS better than any long range rifle.

I'd suggest you to stick with Ratslayer until you can get the normal sniper rifle (+some mod like silencer if you lucky enough). Try to access GRA shop and invest your personal arsenal. Many mods and guns selling there.
Personally I'd go for energy weapons since ammo ain't too hard too get (if you're sticking to vanilla). And because I also don't like my character trekking a lot with half a ton of .308 on his back.

Silencer + silent running + ap ammo to one shot almost anything btw. Take out a riot shotgun or let Cass do it for you mid/close range.

That's what I exactly do, expect I might also use hunting rifle sometimes.
Screw silence, I just use the anti material rifle, who needs silence if your enemies are blown to bits?

Nothing big, just personal rp experience. For an old guy like me, the idea of trekking across the mojave with 120+ lbs of equipment is just outrageous, lol. Also shooting an angry little mole rat with an amr feels really depressing.

P.S. not that I didn't imagine my guy travelling around with the gang and some robots/brahmin to help carrying stuff. But then, dispatching an enclave-level trooper on a Vegas-Primm trip doesn't sound appealing. So I prefer a recon play style, 3 guys and light gears.

You should try the Fatman for those, it's quite illuminating.
