It is an old dilemma and usually boils down to whether you want durability or being stealthy. But usually Christine's tends to win.
For the gun itself, i prefer C's CoS better than any long range rifle.
I'd suggest you to stick with Ratslayer until you can get the normal sniper rifle (+some mod like silencer if you lucky enough). Try to access GRA shop and invest your personal arsenal. Many mods and guns selling there.
Silencer + silent running + ap ammo to one shot almost anything btw. Take out a riot shotgun or let Cass do it for you mid/close range.
Nothing big, just personal rp experience. For an old guy like me, the idea of trekking across the mojave with 120+ lbs of equipment is just outrageous, lol. Also shooting an angry little mole rat with an amr feels really depressing.
P.S. not that I didn't imagine my guy travelling around with the gang and some robots/brahmin to help carrying stuff. But then, dispatching an enclave-level trooper on a Vegas-Primm trip doesn't sound appealing. So I prefer a recon play style, 3 guys and light gears.
You should try the Fatman for those, it's quite illuminating.
