Sure they could, and likely build a better engine to boot. But they don't own the IP, Bethesda does, so they had to work with what they were given.
They had a timeless masterpiece perfected and they stripped it down, destroyed the lore, and basically threw the franchise into the garbage...
At least we are blessed have 3 and NV still
That's a one-sided view of things. Bethesda fans give as much hate as they get.
Indeed. I really did like their reboots of DOOM and Wolfenstein though, and FPS's aren't usually my cup of tea.
I never understood how this is a bad thing, let alone a reason why people should think lesser of NV because of it. So what? Plenty of games build off of predecessors or similar games. No one needs to like F3 in order to like NV. I see that all the time. "Without F3 there would be no NV". Okay, so what? Does that mean I have to enjoy Bethesda's crap writing and uninteresting worlds in order to like NV? No, it doesn't.
also theoretically couldn’t one remake the entirety of fallout 3 (or at least all the side quests) in NV with the GECK barring certain weapon textures
and by this logic isn’t l4d a mod of hl
It's a bad thing because Obsidian was given a pre-made game to work with and still launched it as a horrendous broken mess with lots of gapping content.
Branching story that's hardly ever used and that goes for the "branching decisions" too.
As for significant changes to gameplay...not really? The most they ever did from Fallout 3 was add a General Reputation system they needed more time since it's abuse fodder and a low-tier crafting system that's a step up from the original but still a mess.
They were given a game to work with, the result is admirable but not good enough.
What would this mean? would you want decisions you made in goodsprings, for example, to have some grand impact on the finale? the game has plenty impactful dialogue to be had and decisions to be made, localized or otherwise, and in terms of 3D fallouts, it remains unmatched.
This type of rating coming from someone that sits on FO4 boards and can't get enough of buttering it up, calls FNV, what was it, "something written by middle schoolers", and Obsidian a "glorified modding team".
You should have stayed where you were, go build a base, im sure another settlement needs your help too.
They have made great games, fallout 4 is just an unfortunate pile of trash
