Any active vaults you can visit in this game?
This is my first fallout game except for the fallout shelter app, yet this game does not explain vaults very well so far. Does this game not take you through any vaults that still have people in them. Is it after all the vaults shutdown or is there any active still? Also, is our character or his parents from any specific vault?

Most of the vaults you visit in game are abandon with the exception of vault 21 which is a giftshop
No Vaults in the Mojave remain active. Most were destroyed by the dwellers under pressure from the psychological torture experiments VaultTec initiated. These were designed to be monitored and compared with baseline vaults with no experiments (Vault 3 for example) to see how a post-apocalyptic society could srvive in such a confined pace and under such conditions.

And no, your character is completely what you make them forunately, although it is sometimes suggested they came from around Vault 13 from the original 2 Fallout's. Other than that and a few locations mentioned by a certain someone on a certain Lonesome Road, The Courier is a blank slate for you to imprint your own personality.

Isn't the vault from fallout 4 after this game in the timeline?

No, Vault 111 from FO4 is only in FO4.

To my knowlege, the only two vaults that are still operational are Vault 81 (F04) and Vault 101 (F03). Any other population in a Vault are either people who set up shop there after it was abandoned (like the Fiends in Vault 3) or, in the case of Vault 34 and maybe a few others, descendants of the original population who got turned into feral ghouls.

Most vaults in the game isn't the same as the one you played in fallout shelter (trying to save people in a nuclear apocalypse). Instead most of them were used for social experiment and such. You can find some vault and find out the story behind it in the game
Doesnt vault 13 still work

It might. The last known inhabitants were intelligent deathclaws that may or may not have been wiped out. Nothing has been revealed of its status since then.

Fallout 5: Rise of the Deathclaw

Spanning fallout 3 - 4 there has only been 3 vaults in total that are "active" with people inside:
Vault Gary Gary
Vault 81
Vault 75
Unless you count dlc.
There are no active vaults in new vegas because obsidian probably ran out of time and joshua sawyer was too busy stealing funds for Bards Tale 3.

And because active vaults after 200 years is highly unrealistic, especially since they revealed in Fallout 2 that they were never meant to preserve humans, they were just random sociological experiments.
