Is it possible to take off a scope from a pistol and attach it to a rifle?
Even though I logged over a hundred hours in New Vegas, I still feel like a newbie. I've had a hunting revolver for a while now. I gained another one, but was holding off until I was sure I could take the scope from those and attach it to my Hunting Rifle. Doing some research now I am not seeing anything of the sort. Only that I have to find the right attachment to the weapon, found or bought. I figured since I am already repairing weapons left and right, that would be the obvious thing to do. Scavenge one attachment to add to another weapon. Is that not so?

Nope. You can only attach weapons mods if they are for the weapon you're trying to modify.
Furthermore, weapon mods can't be removed - once they're applied to a weapon, even using that weapon to repair another of the same type won't "transfer" them.

There are quite a few vendors with respawning inventories who can supply you with mods, however. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any that you can "run out" of.

Well that sucks... I was really hoping I could use those scopes for the rifles...

Edit: Haha I was trying to beat a reply in there after rereading the post directly above me. ^^! Yea you lose the attachments.

I guess my next question is, does a scope for a pistol have to be for that exact "type" of pistol such as a 9mm for a 9mm. Or will it go to a revolver as well? Or at least to a 10mm?
Exact type.

That would hardly work even in real life. Pistol scopes have different focus points and often different mounting., Not to mention that rifle scopes are usually much larger magnification.

I am pretty sure you could jerry rig something. And while we are on the subject of magnification, why the hell are the binoculars so weak? I have it at full condition and it barely and I mean barely goes past my normal zoom with my eyes, in fact it does not go any further, just slightly more refined. o_O Is there a way to zoom in better to look out further?
Nope, can't zoom in. Binoculars just kinda suck in comparison to the big scopes.

Not to mention, most pistol scopes tend to have short range zooms (somewhere between 1x and 2x) while most rifles will want something with more power to it (3x or greater) so you can use them at longer distances to better effect.

So even if you could do this, the rifles own scope would be a better option.

Well that definitely sucks and makes it basically pointless. IF you did not have Pipboy to tell you ahead of time what was a threat, as in red for enemies, than it might be useful, but just barely which is a shame.

I understand this, but due to (or I at least) have not really came upon scopes before until the pistol one, anything just about is better than nothing. Accept for the binos, they suck. I figured high repair would allow for switching of scopes on weapons.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting a night-vision scope for the varmit rifle. That little plinker is not to be underestimated! Bonus points if you collect the unique version of the weapon, dubbed the Ratslayer[fallout.fandom.com] - it comes with a maximum-strength scope pre-installed on it.

Not sure of the Ratslayer, but the Varmint rifle even at full condition is crap. I would assume it would be a waste to even bother buying or using a scope on it.
It's quite capable of achieving long-range kills with cheap ammo, and even its regular scope beats binoculars.

To be honest I've yet to use any special ammo at all. Companions generally make the game too easy in parts or so far anyway. I've actually had to tell ED-E to wait far away just so it wont take all the kills, until I realized his melee is none or at least for now. Now I have a human companion and they do what ever. ^^!
