FPS drop - possibly related to LOD or object generation?
Greetings, I seriously hope somebody can help me here, I am quite desperate at this point...

I am setting up my modded FNV using a combination of EssArrBee's "Fear and Loathing" guide and Dirty Weasel Media's YouTube series on Mod Organizer 2. All of my mods seem to be working well, except that I have an issue with FPS dropping.

It seems that whenever I reach the point where the game generates distant objects/LOD, I get a huge drop in FPS, from a full 60 to about 30... I think it might be related to this issue that has plagued my game in the past:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX6Gyurpuso

If you can't properly see it in the video, the game seems to load the LOD and objects closer to me than it should. I had this problem before and wrote about it on different forums but found no solution. Some folks blamed it on my motherboard or GPU but I don't have this issue in other games, so I don't think that's the cause. Either way, the bug never caused any performance issues until now.

I also thought it could be related to NMC's Texture Pack but I disabled it and the FPS was still dropping significantly. My PC is more than well equipped to handle NMC and I even had the Small version.

While I was searching stuff about this on Google, I ran across this post: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7128101-framerate-drop-due-to-lod/

EssArrBee's guide suggests using FNVLODGen as well, however, it only caused more problems. When I ran it with the required patches for NMC, the LOD looked jagged and awful and most objects like rocks or the Repconn rocket dome were completely absent. It also made no difference to the FPS drops whatsoever.

Unfortunantly a windows 10 update (or Nvidia update don't remember) caused issues with NVSR as well as the cell loading for New Vegas.

If using NVSR follow this video here (just skip to the NVSR part but there's some other stuff here that can help performance): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cypqage_Pdk&t=280s

I followed that video's advice and I still get some stutters while loading cells but it did help a lot.

It is happening to most people who have Windows 10 and right now there isn't a known fix.

Hello, thank you for your answer, but I am using Windows 7. I actually watched that video right at the beginning of my modding process when I was installing NVSR, so I know I followed every step mentioned there.

It is normal, that is the background loading slowing down the game. Every single open-world game has this issue that uses cell-based loading. This engine was made around two or three years before GTA San Andreas solved this issue, and they never updated it in the past years. I think the first game using the Bethesda type engine that solves cell loading framedrops was Fallout 76, but since nobody plays it, that hardly matters.
Yes, I am aware that the engine is prone to bad LOD loading, but in my game it really looks unusual. If you watch the video, the sign that I point to with the gun shouldn't appear when I am that close, it should be seen from further away.

Also, I never experienced FPS drops when the LOD loads until now. As I said, I know that this is an issue of the engine, but in my case, the game is nearly unplayable since I cannot walk more than 10 meters without getting a 60-30 FPS drop.
