"an exception occurred in the script" error coming out of nowhere, how do I fix

(I'm gonna split this into paragraphs for convenience for you readers)

What's wrong:

Very simple, I'm getting the error in the title whilst trying to install MCM via Nexus Mod Manager. I say that this error comes out of nowhere as I have used NMM for years and have never encountered this error.

I've pirated FNV many times and installed plenty of mods (including MCM) and never encountered the error there (I only bring this up to show you that, on installs that are typically more unstable than a proper one, I've not encountered this error). I now own a copy on Steam and have installed mods with said copy before. Again, no error. Now, on a fresh install, the error just shows up.

What I've tried

I've tried changing the settings to do with file extensions and file associations, no dice

I've allowed NMM in my firewall and tried to re-download and then install the mod, no dice

I've tried running both FNV and Steam as admin, no dice

I've tried giving myself special permissions of the app in the hopes that this would fix the issue, no dice (that's because the option is greyed out, not because giving myself special permissions changed nothing - hope that sentence makes sense)

I've tried downloading other mods to see if they work (Nevada Skies was the one I used) and it seemed to install fine (to be fair; I didn't install any of its required mods, so the mod wouldn't've worked properly had I launched the game. But NMM seemed to install it just fine).

It is a known NMM bug. Use literally any other mod manager (FOMM fork, ModOrganizer 1, ModOrganizer 2, Vortex, Wrye Flash NV).
