Legendary Deathclaw
Legendary Deathclaw in New Vegas: there's only one, and you need your strongest armor and all the chems and heavy ordnance you can carry.

"Legendary" Deathclaw in 4: had three of 'em for breakfast, and got some pointless loot from each.

Across the river down by the Legion docks more alphas wander about (and I mean alphas - plural); have fun with that. Oh, and there's some good loot in the "nest" in a couple places.

Cross the river at the docks then cut a left until you hit a path on the right and don't forget your best weapons (I prefer Annabelle and High explosive missiles for that run).

Yeah, alpha dethclaws are nasty as h3ll in NV. Took me many runs and build refinements, but I managed to 1-shot both the male and female alphas. Anti-material rifle, exploding rounds, manicured perk tree & specials and lady luck!

There are also alphas in some caves if you want to hunt them - excellent xp farm if you're up to it and psycho enough.

Take care and enjoy a Wasteland Omelet or two.

Interestingly, it was deemed too weak compared to normal alpha males in this game too. There is some mod that turns legendaries into actual superboss creatures. The deathclaw needs you to enter a small arena and it has I think heatvision to find you even under stealth boy. I played with that mod once, but it was the first time in a long while that I died in a fight. Multiple times, in fact.

Wow after probably a good 1000 hours in new vegas I never tried swimming across the river by the docks there, I always assumed I'd hit an invisible wall. How far can you travel across the river in vanilla?

The edge of the world map. There is a deathclaw nesting ground there, with some goodies among the victims.

Armour is pointless against Deathclaws.
Their attacks ignore all DT and DR, atleast New Vegas. XD

It's their manicures man.
Dethclaws got some serious meat hooks on em' lol.

Yeah, you gotta have some fire power behind you when messing with the alpha models else it gets ugly pretty quickly.

@Psychotron666: I found the nest while just being nosey, exploring every inch of the game map, looking for markers I may have missed; etc. prior to the Hoover Dam finally in my "No Gods No Masters" run --many moons ago. Just got to go with curiousity as your guide exploring the NV wasteland; greed's somewhere in there too because material motivation in the Mojave is undeniable. LOL

the good ol' days.

Take care.

I met up with those across the river. Fortunatly the worst were far in and I saw them before they saw me. High trajectory explosive grenades, fire and duck before it hits then move before looking up again. Before you ask how I carried that many, I think I found some more there somewhere. If I remember correctly... ;-)

Shotgun with the 'and stay back' perk makes even legendary deathclaws a joke, especially if using a riot shotgun. So does laying a minefield and leading them into it. High explosives work well in general. As does the 'Super slam' perk.

Pff, Deathclaws?

It's amazing how gamebreaking the Ranger Takedown is when any character regardless of unarmed skill can get it in the first hours of a playthrough.

Tanky shotties chok full-o-perks is my fav stuff in most all games, but prefer AMR w/Expl Rds.

I like to tweak until I start 1-shotting them - unfortunately, unless cmd line console A.Dethclaws are a limited resource. I also love me some 12.7 all up in a dethclaws face at close quarters - I generally go standard issue, but AP would work well on a DClaw too. HP and deathclaws equates to lots of wasted ammo - they have natural body armor, even in the oldies 1, 2 and Tactics. They were sissies in FO3 big time; was lvl 3 and man handled one and my experience with the franchise shouldn't mean a d^mn thing. I do like how Dclaws look in FO4 though - lots of alpha in them and very articulate. I love dethclaws.

In my game, when I went to clear out the cave with the Unique Grenade machinegun (forgot the cave name lmao) I used stealth and killing the legendary deathclaw in one hit with the OWB unarmed weapon. The guy who posts vid builds actually cleared out the entire cave unarmed.

Esther works for me too.
Blew that nest up good with Annabelle a few times, but Esther will get it done too.
