DH Train Network v1 (Old map, slow trains)

Description
Virtual train set map made in May '14 - Last maintained June '15 (and doesn't really work anymore). Now outdated - A newer train map with faster trains can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=563217228

Features 5 rail vehicles, including a "steam" locomotive, a railway track between two asteroids with points and a turntable, plus a skyrail track.

Second video courtesy of CyborgsProtocol, showing an early version of the map.

SHORT GUIDE:
To drive the "steam" train: Stand in the cab and press the green buttons to start/stop rotors. Yellow button reverses rotor direction.

Other vehicles: Jump into a cockpit, then toggle the rotor groups on the action bar to start/stop it.

Points/Turntables: Highlighted yellow. Press the button on a nearby red button panel to toggle them. Turntables align automatically.

====

This map is an early attempt at making trains in Space Engineers dating from May 2014, when mods, station rotation, pistons, non destructable blocks, view distance, and many other features weren't yet implemented into SE. I tweaked it and added small things to it over time.

These trains don't go faster than 8 m/s, plus the sharp corners make it hard to reverse them very far without them getting stuck on themselves. Before non-destructible blocks, they used to keep breaking and deform the track.

There were a few cosmetic bits on it which I never bothered to finish despite all the tweaks, since I uploaded it as a WIP and it fell out of the limelight before I completed it.

VEHICLE NOTES:

"STEAM" TRAIN:

"A steam train? In space? Seems legit." ~ TigerXtrm

Was built by request. It only goes as fast as 5 m/s and rarely clips its "piston rods" on station platforms. It sometimes sticks a bit when cornering or climbing slopes - Just wait a bit though and it should unstick itself.

It originally had a cockpit until I changed it so that it's driven by standing in the cab and pressing buttons to toggle rotors.

Green buttons: Rotors on/off
Yellow button: Reverse direction

It can also be controlled remotely to make it easier to park precisely on turntables. Transfer owner to "me" and find "Remote Control" in the g-menu.
---

GENERIC BRITISH RAIL TRAIN (turquoise, white stripe):

First train which pulls coaches that I made, styled on old (1960s?) diesel British Rail locomotives. Goes 8 m/s. Sit in any of the "cabs" and the toggle rotors groups on the action bar to drive it.

"All you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!"

---

SKYRAIL TRAM (yellow tram hanging from its own track above Terminus A):

First rail vehicle of any sort which I made, and very basic. It's capable of climbing vertical rails with clever use of gravity generators, but it doesn't do that in this map. It was previously uploaded with its own map with a long track between 3 asteroids, seen here:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=254714412

---

INTERCITY TRAIN (black & yellow):

Parked in the small depot next to Terminus B, and styled on an old Intercity 125. It's slightly faster than the Generic BR train.

It used to function like the BR Train until it was rebuilt so that all 3 wagons are linked properly via rotor couplings (sort of like the green steam engine and tender on the second map) - All wheel rotors turn on at once, making it easier to reverse than the other trains.

---

"RAILCAR" train:

Prototype vehicle parked at Terminus A depot, existing in the map for early testing. Slow.

=====

OTHER MECHANICS:

POINTS:

Controlled by a nearby red button panel, which reverses the piston. Before pistons, it used thrusters on a "slider", a long row of armour blocks held in place with landing gear - You used to have to sit in a flight seat and move the slider carefully left or right.

---

TURNTABLE:

Park a train on one of them and use the button panel to start turning it (button 1) or reverse its direction (button 2). It'll now automatically stop when the tracks are lined up.

It's slow 'cause of how sensors and timer blocks work. Even now I still wish they'd let you set timer blocks to delay less than 1 second - It's why the turntable on the second map isn't reverseable.

---

BASIC ELEVATOR (Leading up to the Skyrail station, Terminus A - Exists for show):

This is how people used to build elevators before pistons were introduced into the game. Move up and down with (default) "Space" and "C".

=====

EXTRA MAP NOTES:

The red and white "arrow of indecision" logo is that from the long-defunct British Rail company, back when trains here in the UK were publicly owned for the benefit of everyone rather than by private companies to make a profit, but is still used in this country as a generic symbol to represent railway stations and train travel.

The unfinished mid point station in this map would have looked exactly like smaller versions of Terminus A, and I intended to finish single-track branch line which tunnels through the asteroid below Terminus B, but didn't.

I uploaded this map a year ago yesterday - And with some minor fixes, it still works almost as it did back then... Although that probably shows how little SE has changed in that time.

Thanks to all for your feedback and upvotes. :)

@[UESC]Chucky Dickens=FILTH= - Only the HST/Intercity is modeled vaguely off a real world train. The other 4 are generic or shaped the way they are for functionality.

great map not to mention the music, nice touch using transport tycoon tunes

oooooh I see a HST. <3

Now this is engineering.
Love that you've moddled them off of british units too. Is that a C37? or a Deltic? or...?

This is a labor of love and you are a genius

all you have to do is make the couplings longer by a block and I think things will be better. Just a thought. -wink-

@Sqweloookle - Thanks. :) Yeah that rarely happens sometimes (though I dunno how recent physics updates have changed how this map works - It was working fine back in Novemeber) - You'll have to reload the save, or try removing some wheels.

When I built this ages ago I tried playing around with several wheel mechinisms - The one in use seemed to work best, and had to be that wide to get around corners without sticking.

I'd like to try making another map like this someday, once SE has updated a bit more.

DarkHoodness, I got the Blue train stuck on the yellow connecting track part to the main track... Help... The couplings are too short I believe. Though I believe the wheels structure on the bottom of the trains could be tighter maybe.

Otherwise AWESOME TRAINS hehehehe

An update to Space Engineers reset the rotors - I've fixed this old map, it should work again now.
