New train map with faster trains can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=478133323

I uploaded this map a year ago yesterday - And with some minor fixes, it still works almost as it did back then... Although that probably shows how little SE has changed in that time.

Thanks to all for your feedback and upvotes. :)

@[UESC]Chucky Dickens=FILTH= - Only the HST/Intercity is modeled vaguely off a real world train. The other 4 are generic or shaped the way they are for functionality.

great map not to mention the music, nice touch using transport tycoon tunes

oooooh I see a HST. <3

Now this is engineering.
Love that you've moddled them off of british units too. Is that a C37? or a Deltic? or...?

This is a labor of love and you are a genius

all you have to do is make the couplings longer by a block and I think things will be better. Just a thought. -wink-
DarkHoodness  [author] Apr 8, 2015 @ 7:00am
@Sqweloookle - Thanks. :) Yeah that rarely happens sometimes (though I dunno how recent physics updates have changed how this map works - It was working fine back in Novemeber) - You'll have to reload the save, or try removing some wheels.

When I built this ages ago I tried playing around with several wheel mechinisms - The one in use seemed to work best, and had to be that wide to get around corners without sticking.

I'd like to try making another map like this someday, once SE has updated a bit more.

DarkHoodness, I got the Blue train stuck on the yellow connecting track part to the main track... Help... The couplings are too short I believe. Though I believe the wheels structure on the bottom of the trains could be tighter maybe.

Otherwise AWESOME TRAINS hehehehe

An update to Space Engineers reset the rotors - I've fixed this old map, it should work again now.

is it just me, or does it not work?
Sygramyr Aug 22, 2014 @ 11:15pm
Btw with the new remote control features you can set up a master control station and start running multiple trains at the same time!
Sygramyr Aug 22, 2014 @ 11:14pm
I seriously have a seizure of happiness screwing around with your trains. Thomas needs a white face and a couple black eyes, my daughter screams when she sees him very good job guy.

Hurray this is exactly what I have been working on designing this is going to be a great addition to the pirate space port! Ill have to post or loop you in when I have the pirate train updated and running. To cool

tfw no train gf
ginglymus May 27, 2014 @ 1:18pm
After trimming back the underside grip wheels I've got it working with your points - but it's nailbitingly close to falling off the edges on the bends now! O for half width wheels.
ginglymus May 27, 2014 @ 11:14am
The one I posted is fine on slopes and corners - I will try points this evening and see how it fares. I found that the side grips have to be static - my train is a block wider than yours, which is wide enough for the grip to fit, but not so wide that it can't corner wihout falling off.

I'm still trying to work out couplings...
DarkHoodness  [author] May 26, 2014 @ 4:18pm
@Ginglymus - Interesting design. I did, but I had trouble getting the wheels to grip the "track" (since they can't be made to fit flush with large hull peices) - I tried rotors and wheels mounted on shafts, but rotors flex too much and it stops working on slopes and corners (I abuse that "bug" for couplings). There's also the issue of points, such a system doesn't deal with small gaps in the track very well...

And yep, large ship peices aren't good for rail systems yet so I stopped trying to use them after a few initial tests, but it's cool that you made it sort of work. :)
ginglymus May 26, 2014 @ 2:12pm
Great fun! Have you tried trains without using artifcial mass? I've had success large and small , inspired by your design. Get quite good traction on the little one; the big one almost works but tends to chew up the rails as you can only fire up one bogey at a time - I use big thrusters and free-wheel it instead.
Amberlight May 26, 2014 @ 4:56am
This is so insanely cool. I find the railway itself even more awesome than the trains.
Saber George May 25, 2014 @ 11:06pm
WoW nice work train's in spaceeeee lol.
mcborge May 25, 2014 @ 9:27pm
FANTASTIC! "bing bong..ladies and gentlemen the 12:15 to alfa senturi has been delayed due to asteroids on the line...only joshing mate, cool build.
The Fallen Snow May 25, 2014 @ 3:13pm
It's lego!
MadMan2065 May 23, 2014 @ 9:19pm
Very well done
Bender192 May 23, 2014 @ 7:38pm
Awesome! Looking forward to see more :)
Fallhammer May 23, 2014 @ 9:15am
WOW, that was better than going to DisneyLand! Impressive work, and very little lag/fps drop. The stations are very cool and detailed, and the trains scared me :) Can't wait to see more.

I'm working on one more vehicle, this time with a single carriage. I think I may know what's wrong with the black & yellow train and will overhaul it for the next map update.

Setting this up for yourself may be complicated - Getting it to work seems to be dependant on wheel spacing, artificial mass placement, and overall vehicle mass... Lots of trial and error was involved and I'm not sure even I understand what works and what doesn't. :P

It may be better to use my skyrail design instead as a couple of others have done, it's easy to follow and more forgiving.
Jakaya May 22, 2014 @ 10:41am
Would love to see some new trains and also maybe a detailed guide on how to set up are own systems i have a greate use for this at my base just cant wwork it all out btw the speed train has a few issues ie it destroys itself over time
DarkHoodness  [author] May 22, 2014 @ 10:02am
Thanks all. :)
Danger Dave May 22, 2014 @ 5:07am
keep up the work, seriously. it's great
Dodgy Asian Tobacconist May 22, 2014 @ 1:35am
absolutly AWSOME, you are really good at working with these ideas :D

Amazing
