You've never played a game like Hunt: Showdown . . . But you really, really, REALLY should.

Imagine if Red Dead Redemption had a child with Left 4 Dead, and then that child grew up and found love with Mr/Ms Rainbow 6 Siege. That's what Hunt consists of. Want more info? Allow me to explain:

The Red Dead Redemption part comes from the fact that the game is set in the late 1800s, deep in the Louisiana Bayou, showcased by the scenery, outfits, and selection of late 1800s/early 1900s weapon with the names changed around, still able to tell what is what if you're a gun nerd. For example, the Martin-Henry has become the Martini-Henry.

The Left 4 Dead aspect comes in with the wide variety of zombie-adjacent monsters that roam the Bayou. From simple "Grunts", or slightly more intelligent zombie-like creatures that act much like a zombie, but often carry tools or weapons (like knives that cause bleed, or torches that burn you) to make your life just that much more difficult as you travel from compound to compound searching for one of the bosses (your main target). The bosses are also something very Left-4-Dead-coded. I won't spoil too much for you, but as an example, one of the bosses is a giant, headless, bloated corpse with a swine (pig) head attached to its now bare and leech-ridden shoulders, dawning a flaming meat hook to attack you with. This monster has become known as "The Butcher". The bosses drop two "bounty tokens" upon full death and banishment completion, and will allow you 5 seconds of balanced "wallhacks" to be able to see where any enemy within 75 meters is in a general area. The closer you are to the enemy, the more accurate the "wallhacks" become. The bounty tokens are your ticket to earning experience for your hunter, and "winning" the game. Extract with at least one in your possession, unless you feel you can't take on the teams that have the bounties, or if they've all already extracted. Be your own judge.

As for the Rainbow 6 Siege part, it's less of anything you can visualize, but more so in the gameplay. I'll rapid fire some similarities to give you an idea of what I mean.
Bosses are located inside of specific compounds, and once you kill them, there is a "banishment" process that takes about two minutes. During this phase is often when people will attack.
•You are able to set a wide variety of traps to catch any careless enemy off guard as they try to enter the compound you're defending.
• This game has binaural audio, meaning you can tell *exactly* where someone is from upwards of 50-75 meters away, even further if you "audio ♥♥♥♥♥" the game by turning up volume to max... Gunfights are very loud though, I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're comfortable with hearing loss later in life.
•You are able to shoot through walls, given the right weapon and ammunition type. For example, high-powered rifles are able to penetrate heavily fortified walls at a close distance, and still able to penetrate thin materials at long distance. Shotguns are amazing at penetrating a wall to try to hit an enemy that you are already able to hear. Most pistols will not penetrate much, unless you're right up on whatever you're trying to shoot through, or have Full Metal Jacket ammunition.
•Teamwork is important if you're running duos or trios (the maximum team size allowed in the game), as if nobody is paying close enough attention to your surroundings on your team, it can quickly become your downfall as you run right into the line of sight of a sniper, or in range of a shotgunner that heard you coming and hid in a bush to catch you off guard.

All of this being said, I still have not covered the importance of so many other things, including gameplay loops, how "sound traps" (things that alert other players if you get too close to them) work, etc. If any of this sounds at all interesting to you, I highly recommend you try the game out yourself. Who knows, maybe you'll find a new favorite game?

Ending this review, if you do end up trying out the game, just know that you might not be great at it at first, as there is a very steep learning curve. I recommend either finding a friend that knows how the game works, or queueing into random trios for the first few matches so you're able to get the hang of it, but just know that "Hunt Giveth, and Hunt Taketh Away", so you're not going to win every match. Don't forget to try out the tutorial to figure out all of the basics of the game as well!

Anyways, I wish you well on your Hunting journey. Good luck, young Hunter.

This game would be amazing if the people actually respected the name of the game more often than playing "No Honor" and double, triple, or quadruple teaming a single person instead of waiting for your turn. I'm aware that Revenge is a mechanic to allow you to "combat" this, but for most people it comes way too late into the double team or triple team fight that it doesn't matter in the end, and you still end up losing unless you're leagues better than all of the opponents fighting you. "For Honor" people. Show some, one time.

Used to be a huge Overwatch player up until they made the entire game a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by making it pay-to-win and turning the decently generous loot boxes into "one common skin is $20USD". I rarely play Overwatch anymore because of that and this is an absolutely lovely alternative to it.

Early Access Review
Actually pretty fun.

This game is a battle royale with PvE objectives instead of simply having the objective of "last one standing". You're put on a team of 3 survivors to collect as many materials and "data points" (physical items that represent score) before the shuttle lands and leaves your team behind. Whoever has the most data points by the end of the game wins. You can kill enemy players to make them drop any data points that they have on their person. Keep in mind that there are data uplinks around the map, allowing you to upload the data points, preventing enemies from taking them.

Anyways, there are a few gripes that I have about the game, but nothing major:
- Small selection of weapons
- Prone to freezing, crashing, errors, and more (this is excused by the fact that the game *is* early access)
- Most weapon magazines are exceptionally low (for example, a common assault rifle found in lootable object has only 15 bullets per reload
- Weapons sometimes feel under powered and useless, even against the AI, let alone other players.

Aside from those few things, I'm really happy I downloaded this game and gave it a try. It's a really good game with a pretty decent concept, and I can't wait to see what the developers do next! <3

(Edit: If your game happens to have trouble launching, simply verify the game files by right clicking on the game in your steam library, clicking "Properties" to open the properties window, clicking on "Local Files", and clicking on "Verify integrity of game files...". After it verifies the files and/or downloads the missing files, launch the game again, and it should be fixed. <3)

infested with bots with aimbot and players that are too stupid to kick them, instead choosing to vote out players they don't like.

used to be fun, don't even bother anymore.

Cheaters rampant.

Do not buy this game.

You will not be allowed to play it without a cheater ruining your experience.

Rockstar doesn't care, and I genuinely hope they go bankrupt, even though they won't.

Cheating isn't hard, nor is it punished. Don't play this garbage.

Regardless of the ♥♥♥♥ that other people give this game, it's a fun game. It has a lot of the stuff from previous Fallout games, it's fun to play with friends, and the questing and storytelling is great. Improving this game should be the #1 priority for Bethesda, because it still has a lot of kinks, but aside from that, I'm absolutely in love with the game.

Although it's not quite what we Fallout fans expected at launch, it's still a good game in its own right.
