Early Access Review
Devilishly addictive, this extremely fast-paced shooter feels like a genre of its own while also paying homage to beloved "boomer shooters" such as Doom and Quake. Each segment of the game is packed with new enemies, weapons, and abilities, maintaining a constant "fresh" feeling and a non-stop momentum that makes it impossible to put down once you find your niche. I spent the first act almost exclusively using the various revolvers, only to find that a close-range playstyle using shotguns became more and more rewarding as enemy populations became denser and it became harder to avoid projectiles. ULTRAKILL rewards supreme offense and defense in equal measure, with both close-range damage and projectile parries restoring health.

I could go on-- Basically, it's an extremely dynamic and challenging experience like Doom on crack, with charming low-poly environs that inevitably end up covered in blood and gibs. If that sounds fun to you, please give it a try.

Fun game but deeply unbalanced with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of bugs. Balance and bugs seem to get worse with every patch. No idea what this dev team is doing

Really fun game, a little repetitive, but honestly one of the best co-op pve shooters since like L4D2 and Vermintide 2. Really tight, immersive and frantic combat. The stealth elements aren't too engaging but it's an option for anyone who wants to play that way. The multitude of power weapons and calldowns allow you to play your way, but ultimately I wish that the primary weapons were more balanced and varied. Still, that's just a minor gripe from me because I get bored easily with assault rifle type weapons in games. Ultimately, this is THE new co-op PvE shooter. There's no competition from anything released in the past 5 years.

There have already been endless essays about this game. I'll just say this: It's worth playing. Decipher the commentary, or just enjoy the story. Insert your own whimsy. Have fun. Try different stuff. Indulge in the amazing voice acting. Roleplay being French. Un jour je serai de retour près de toi.

A very fun and rewarding game with lots of interesting things to do and read considering the small scale of the game.

Unfortunately, suffers from a lack of replayability as there are only 2 endings in this short game and basically no other variation in playthroughs. Additionally, one of the minigames in particular is very tedious.

Taking into account the very small price tag of the game, I think that these flaws can be overlooked entirely.

Overall, an extremely charming and affordable game that clearly displays a great deal of care and effort on the part of the developer(s).

Super fun roguelike with snazzy music. Each character has a unique feel, some can be harder than others. Artifacts allow gameplay to be tailored to whatever specific kind of difficulty you want at the moment. The art style lacks detail, leading some areas to be monotonous at times. Once the waves of enemies ramp up however, you no longer have the time to look for details in the scenery. It's nice that the areas aren't too distracting while performing precise evasive maneuvers. Eventually after so many levels, I got a little bored with it; RNG-based difficulty isn't always my thing. There's also Prismatic Trials mode, in which there is less RNG and thus can lend itself to more planning and careful execution. This wasn't really my thing either (I think ultimately I prefer RPGs where your character can persist instead of perish) but I'm sure there is a crowd of players who could be entertained by this game endlessly.

After almost 500 hours I find that I cannot recommend this game to anyone. It's just a game that I got decent at so I kept on playing until I found better fighting games. Skullgirls has a fairly broken assist system and an "infinite prevention system" that generally ends up assisting more experienced players with creating longer combos that are even harder to break out of than in other fighting games that simply use hitstun and juggle decay. Some characters have very slow attack animations at times which can lead to you just sitting there for 10 seconds waiting for a chance to essentially play rock-paper-scissors with someone-- losing this game means you're stuck in another combo. This is bad because it easily makes high level play extremely boring and repetitive, with any little poke from either side leading into an extremely long, excruciating combo-- Not to mention the lack of limits on assists, making assist spam extremely easy and often hard to punish thanks to some powerful assist attacks having hyper armor. As with many other fighting games, the DLC characters are easy to use and hard to counter. I wouldn't call them broken, however-- any base game character can lock you into an obnoxious series of 50-50s. There are better niche fighting games, and better mainstream ones as well. Ultimately, watching the story sequences is more entertaining than playing the game.
