I love this game. One of my favorite indie game so far, and i'm not a huge platformer fans. Because of my lack of interests to platformers, i've never tried any metroidvania besides Hollow Knight and Blasphemous. And both doesn't dissapoint. Well to be fair to not be disappointed by hollow knight is a no brainer, but i've seen Blasphemous get some bad rep. And i'd like to give my few cents towards it.

The Section Where I Praise The Game And Maybe Throw Some Criticisms Here And There

Artstyle, animation, and pixel art is one of the best in the business. You've read and seen it in any other reviews, so I'm preaching to the choir. However, the music and the background feels really bland, especially if compared to the other aspects of design you might encounter in the game. And that, baby, that's enemy designs and animations. Especially the BOSSES. You got giant skeletons on a giant hands. You got giant baby with his giant human centipede pet. You got giant leshen thingy from witcher 3. There's a lot of giants in this game. Again, i'm preaching to the choir here, but the bosses are really well designed.

As for gameplay. Combat is great. Did I say great? I meant stellarly amazing. You are given a lot of tools to dispatch your enemy, some of those works a lot better than the others to certain enemies, so you must know how to handle each one. For example, to defend yourself you got dash, jump, and riposte (parry). However, you can't use dash against the one enemy with a massive door as a shield because you will be bounced back with their shield. So you must use jump over them or riposte their attack. Another example is the giant with bell-chariot thingy who charges at you. His charge can't be riposted nor can you dash pass him, so you have to jump over it and attack it from behind. This makes feels each grunts feels different from the others since you have to keep adapting your strategies. Although, i must mention that there's some enemies who are just an reskin and upgrade of earlier enemies in the game, but they never overstays their welcome.

However, those awesome tools i've mentioned earlier doesn't include prayers (spell). The prayers doesn't feel powerful, and at times i feel discouraged for the most times to use it because how useless it is, and casting one leaves you very vulnerable for a hevty amount of time. Especially because there's nothing spells can do that some good ol' elbow grease and sharp thorny piece of metal you call a sword can achieve (excepts for obtaining cherubs).

Also, while the game gives you plenty of combat tools, it's lacking some in the other important aspects of the gameplay: movement. You basically only have jump. Thatse it. You canot change this. Can't dash midair, no double jump (or is there?). You can cling to ledges and grab and jump on some walls, but that's really it. The upgrades you receive to unlock certain areas only reveals more ledges and allows you to walk and jump in water without resistance. But does this means the platforming lever sucks big black gorilla ding dong? Not to me. The devs understand this, and gives you a healthy amount of enemy on each platforming levels to keep you on your toes. This may feels cheap to some of you, but not to me. The game knows what it want to achieve, and keep itself on it's lane. It's a more combat oriented platformer, and i like that about this game.

The Section Where I Defend The Game From Other's WRONG Opinion
Now that i've done with my opinion, i want to address some of the others that leave me scratching my head. Some people say the control is clunky. They say the jump feels floaty, and sometimes they fails to grab certain ledges. They also say spikey death pits never makes a game more fun (yeah you know who you are, i've read your review).

Also they say platforming while combatting doesn't feel fun. They say there's a lack checkpoints and fast travel points. They say the platforming is unforgiving. (yeah i'm talking to you)

HO HO WELL
You make me laugh, you. You're begging me to say this, aren't you? All those revies are a troll to bait me into saying this certain line to you, am i not right? You absolute simpleton, you absolute neanderthal. You kong. Ooh, you know what i'm about to say to you. It's been said a thousand of times before, and i'm about to say it again. There's no way around it, fella, but like old Cranky Kong used to advice:

git gud

Relaxing and Relatable. 9.5/10
It's sad that this game doesn't receive enough attention. it deserve more than it got.

PROS:
+ Great character, not a dull one. Each and every one are so relatable
+ Great setting, told from an unusual perspective. "Show, don't tell" at it's finest.
+ THE STORY IS AMAZING. It manages to stay realistic in a bizarre setting. No crazy twist and turn, but really deep at the same time at personal level.

CONS
- The music is good, but nothing memorable. No hum material.

If you like visual novel, buy this game at full price. It'll worth the money, i promise.

the ending is bad. And by bad i meant it makes me feel bad in a lot of various ways. I have to watch and play something stupidly unserious in order to recover.
8.5/10
I would give it a 10 if not for the bizarre control and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Panic Talk Action (or known as Bullet Time Battle in the first game)

!! VERY MILD SPOILERS REGARDING IT'S RELATION TO THE FIRST GAME !! nothing serious tho
Playing the first game first add so much to the experience, but i think it is able to stand up on it's own. If you plan to play the first game, DO NOT play this game first: always play the first game first.
I've said too much

If you play the first game and like it, this one is easily a must play.

This is NOT overwatch for poor people. If you want such game, play Paladins instead. This is not the game for people who want tovisit the game, pick a class, play a few game, and be a good gamer. This game is for people who want to test the limit of their gaming and FPS skill, and have fun at the same time. I might have exaggerate it a bit, but that's how i feel.

Despite anythig you've heard, the dev is still working on this game with passion. The community is still far away from dead. This game will survive another decade.

Early Access Review
Cant stop playing. This game is crack if it was cute and cuddly.

Been playing for 4 hours non stop (had to skip some class because of this game), and doesn't feel like an early access game at all.
