Mighty No. 9 was so hype for me 3 years ago. I'm rather disappointed with how it turned out to be in the end.

That being said, it's not a ~bad~ game. It just doesn't deserve the hype it got back in 2013. It's a sound enough game to qualify as a decent platformer... except you were expecting an AMAZING NEW MEGAMAN GAME FROM THE MEGA-MIND HIMSELF! On that note it doesn't qualify. The level design is subpar, i ended up using almost exclusively 3 weapons, the voice ac-.......

The voice acting is abysmally bad. Change it to Japanese for OK tier VAs. Weapon select was annoying. i want a scroll through and auto equip. or at least pause the game and select.

Something's got to be said about the obnoxious difficulty spikes. namely the amount of instant death traps you put in levels like giant saw blades, long fall tunnels with spikes on every cranny, and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ last boss. It's really obvious that the team tried to go for a lot of hardcore old school difficulty, but the levels all vary in difficulty so widely in specific areas. certain ones later in the levels eat up your lives and foce you to restart the whole level over again.
[i'm looking at you auto-scrolling brandish stage. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i hate auto scrollers.]

There are a number of points in the game that are redeeming, but those are largely drowned out for me by how much frustration i have in some others. Even then, the game is solid. I kind of expect this for a lot of indie platformers i play (i play a lot of masochistic games), but again, i didn't back an indie. i backed what-i-thought-was gonna be the next big thing. Graphics i can forgive, but 3 years and 4 million dollars couldn't... get... better... voice actors?
