EDIT: Since i last wrote this review, ive completed all quests, area tasks, and gotten my max cape. this game is amazingly crafted. I can't get enough of it.

I've got 3 months of playtime in this game outside of steam. I picked it back up this year at the reccommendation of a friend.... to play OSRS (Old School RuneScape)

OSRS is a game that's not on steam (yet) where the two storylines of the games branched into different paths, as well as different design philosopies. You're free to enjoy which ever one you'd like!

Do you like earning your merit by blood, sweat and tears? Do you miss Runescape's old nostalgic look? Do you think modern Runescape's lore should have never taken liftoff from its grounded adventurer aesthetic?
If this one is what you like, you might like playing Old School Runescape (on Jagex's website, not yet on steam as of november 2020)

Do you like quality of life additions to old video games, like never worrying about having forgotten your tools at the bank, because they're always on you? do you like updated graphics and sounds? do you like the biggest soundtrack list in video game history (look that one up!)? Do you like faster progression with less grind, but still plenty to work for? Do you like character customization to suit your tastes, and not just the meta? Do you not mind microtransactions in a game where it's not necessary to progress, but you can if you'd like? Do you like to be treated as more of a hero than an average joe in your adventures?
if that suits your fancy, Runescape (this one!) is for you

you might like either one of the games if you like:
alternating between very passive gameplay (so passive, you can watch tv or read books while you click every couple seconds), and very engaging quests or bossfights. you choose what you feel up to today
actual engaging lore. i honestly have played like 10 other modern mmos and none have engaged me storyline wise as much as runescape's has.
getting so good, you can earn your own premium membership fee.
doing lots of activities with your friends
playing on mobile (both OSRS and RS3 are on mobile phones! [some limited availability applies...])

I played OSRS for like, 3 months before finally giving RS3 a try, as the community is pretty divided between how the devs handle the two games, but honestly, I cant' pull myself away from this version in particular. it feels so much more polished. I hope you'll join me! there's a lot to explore!
