Really good basic-brand RPG for those looking for a pretty chill and engaging story driven experience with some solid combat encounters.
Great especially for people who don't like the super complex nature that a lot of RPGs can dish out nowadays, I always have a soft spot for these types for that reason. Still a good layer of complexity and especially build freedom with the spellbook and specialization choices you get to make.
Lots of great accessibility for those who need it, just want to play for the story (which is exceptionally good), or need help beating certain encounters, though most encounters aren't too tricky.
Story will especially impact anyone in the LGBT sphere of things, especially-especially if you're trans/nb like myself, could not recommend enough for that. And if not, you still might learn a thing or two! It's pretty worth it.

The enemy designs and encounters, the NPCs too are all wonderfully charming and well designed, try to see as little of them as possible before playing if you want the full impact that some of them can have in sheer shock value.

As a player of the predecessor, SLHRPG, the MLP fangame released ~10 (!) years ago, this is basically taking that game and cranking it up into an actually solo-standing product, and it does it very well. The upgrades to the graphics, the character designs, again, if you're someone else who played that and are apprehensive that you might've seen it all still, you haven't, I promise you. This is a major upgrade over that and modifies that story in a way you couldn't predict, but you will still catch similar beats here and there, like the basement dungeon.

The music is absolutely incredible too! I'm not much of a music reviewer, but I like it. Still can't help but almost want more adventures in this universe, even if I have to wait twice as long, I will.

The *only* drawback is, of course, you might get battle fatigue, as with any RPG game, but given this game's lack of random encounters, lack of need to grind (level cap exists), and certain encounters being one time, I think it mitigates that issue very well, especially by spacing things out with story and little puzzle sections.

NOTE: I wrote this a really long time ago and it's still entirely true except now I can't even launch the game without jumping through hoops in Task Manager.

do not buy this right now

if you don't have NASA's supercomputer the game ain't gonna work for you

the dev team still hasn't fixed anything so wait it out until they do (lol)

of my 2.2 hours about 10 minutes of that was playing, the rest was trying to load either the terrain, or start up the game itself

heed my warning, consumer, just wait, wait for it to eventually go on sale, wait for the devs to actually fix game breaking issues.

the system requirements are a lie, I well exceed them and cannot run the game in the slightest. (Top level Nvidia card and i7 processor, and 8 gigs of ram)

steer clear traveller, it is not safe

It's been about a week, and the devs have come through as expected.

-The 3 new bosses have finally reached a point where they aren't the equivalent of shoving your head into a meat grinder.
The big ragman is by far the most balanced of them all. A challenging, yet still fun fight, and a fair HP pool that isn't a bullet sponge and is as easily completed with stock damage as with OP damage.
The other bosses, not so much. Big Horn is a great fight now as his hands can't hurt you before they actually spawn, and the health reduction he received balanced him for the tier you fight him at. The Vis Sisters also received numerous fixes, and they don't appear to use the unavoidable laser anymore. They also got a significant health reduction, also placing them at an appropriate health pool and making the Cage the tank of the Depths again. They aren't as aggressive anymore, so they don't trap you as easily and force you into some inescapable damage anymore either. It is now possible to clear a Sisters Vis fight with medium damage without taking a single hit.

Champion brownie is fair too, no more drowned chargers!

-Next up are the enemies. I actually enjoy a couple of them, such as The Thing, a new wall spider that spews creep from its mouth. But like Afterbirth, 75% are recolors. Portals now despawn after X number of enemies, making them not an obnoxious entity anymore, and more of a enemy grab bag, which makes them a lot nicer to experience than before, as they don't break the flow as much as they used to. They also added fast, invincible stone fattys, which thankfully don't do damage, but can be endlessly spawned and also block your shots.

I've now had my fair share of experience with new items/trinkets and I must say they are incredibly fun. My top favorites are Sharp Straw and Lead Pencil + Jacob's Ladder together. (It's an amazing synergy!) There's a few neat trinkets and some cool items like Void, which lets you set up some incredibly fun synergies, and Smelter, which lets you permanently apply trinket effects.

The new character is really fun too, mostly because he starts with Void, and doesn't have much reduction on his stats compared to Isaac.

Finally, the mod tools. A lot of people are complaining about how lackluster the modding tools are, how weak they are, the lack of guidance (Tyrone, one of the devs, is working on a guide right now that will be published soon.), and other shenanigans. However, compared to the old stuff we had to work with for modding, they're giving the community a huge opportunity. They gave us support to add new items, new characters, new enemies, all from scratch. We could never have done this before without EXE modding, minus the old xml changes, but those were just spin offs of older enemies. With the booster pack content (That's right, we still get monthly content from the community for this year!) they are giving the people opportunity to make their mark on the game. This was originally just a mod tools and nothing else DLC, but the devs went a little extra way to provide some more content for the community.

EDIT ADDITION: The devs have been constantly adding new features to the tools, most recently Item Pool & Player Stats, so they are definitely listening!

Also I love the bestiary. I'm a statistics hog, and it's really enjoyable to see how much of an enemy you killed, or even learn what enemies cause you the most trouble.

I can definitely recommend this DLC now. Edmund and Nicalis definitely work fast when it comes to ironing out issues!

A rather short game I picked up for $2.00 while it was on sale. The price by default is a little steep, so if you get it I'd recommend getting it on sale. The gameplay reminded me of Marble Saga: Kororinpa for the Wii, and that pretty much sold the game for me. Controls very similar to that game as well, gave some nostalgia. After you clear all the levels, you get a level creator that I think could benefit a lot more from Steam Workshop integration. Lots of fun mechanics and levels, especially the last world.

it's time to vote this game in the write-ins section of the steam awards as most deserving of a sequel

You can destroy the world with things like the rapidly mutating virus, or the increasingly killer bio-weapon, or enslave humanity with worms, turn everyone into zombies, or even make your own disease with the scenario creator.

Take down challenging countries like Canada and Greenland, grind for the genes you need to actually beat the Necroa virus. Get bored and download user scenarios like "Hank Hill" where you bring pro-pain to the world, or just make your own, with near limitless creation mechanics! (ok you can modify any country, all the traits, pretty much everything.)

"BUT IT'S JUST A CRAPPY MOBILE PORT LOLKAT!" Does your mobile version have steam workshop? DOES YOUR MOBILE VERSION HAVE HD GRAPHICS? DOES YOUR MOBILE VERSION HAVE GOOGLE STREET VIEW ZOOM? DOES YOUR MOBILE VERSION SEND FREE UPDATES?

Get it. Get it and join the world of angry gamers raging over Greenland closing its ports.
