I honestly do not understand how much the reviews are negative towards this game. I can understand the lackluster online experience (which isn't totally the game's fault, there just isn't a lot of people playing online) is an issue but if you don't mind setting yourself up with friends (which is easy to do considering the base game is free) or fight against the game's bots (which if you are like me, will be fun to do at the end of a day before bed) then honestly, this is pretty solid.

The 3v3 format makes for some fun intense matches, the roster is a pretty good selection of characters from the franchise's history (going beyond the numbered entries for 2 of em which is great for variety).

It's certainly different from the PSP games which I at first wasn't much into either but the format grew on me.

I know some folks report performance issues which I can say that I do not have, the game runs solid on my gaming laptop on the highest settings.

I saw some comments point that the game has way too expensive dlc and tons of it like KT's other fighting games (Dead or Alive) but as someone who actually plays those games and spent some on the DLC, I can tell you that Dissidia is MUCH MORE reasonable with its dlcs (tho I will concede the recent 3rd costumes have been a little too high)

Honestly, it's free to try so just give it a shot knowing your choices will be limited and if you like it, then just go for it! At worst, you just won't like it and you spent nothing on it, it won't hurt!
