If you took a brilliant writer who is deeply into philosophy and sci-fi/fantasy, sent them on a psychedelic LSD trip, you'd get Nier Automata. Game is a masterpiece in every way. Top tier story, music, characters, and Platinum's polished action-slasher gameplay.

Easy 10/10. Yoko Taro's imagination is really out there. No spoilers.

Excellent story, excellent music, dated graphics and gameplay (which is to be expected of a remaster). Easy recommendation and the perfect stepping stone for Automata.

A unique and memorable experience. As with most mystery games, the less you know the better. The indie gaming scene is where experiences such as Inscryption thrive and I am happy to see its impact on the industry. Hats off to Daniel Mullins Games and Devolver Digital for making this happen.

What makes Hades special is its integration of natural dialogue, solid storytelling, and a unique personality into the roguelike genre. Other roguelikes often become repetitive over time because the incentives to continue purely reside within gameplay unlocks or are often hard locked with run progression.

With Hades, Supergiant marries narrative and gameplay in a continuous positive feedback loop. If you live, you're enjoying the fast paced chaotic combat while interacting with the Gods, characters, and bosses of the underworld. If you die, progression is continued narratively, and you're greeted by a wonderful cast of characters in your home hub (which you can also develop and upgrade). Developing relationships with characters both gives you gameplay upgrades and story progression. Gameplay services narrative, narrative services gameplay, and so on in the loop. This is a winning formula which makes the game feel fresh, every step is always a step forward in some capacity.

The amount of variation is staggering, between all the different weapons, weapon upgrades, weapon modifications, boons (aka power ups), items, and all of these factors influencing one another, it ensures no two runs feel the same. It's the perfect blend of chaos (randomness of what you'll get in the run), skill, and order (consistencies between runs). There is so much content in this game that it never really "ends", all of it is high quality, and all of it is very well polished.

Everything else is what you'd expect from Supergiant games: gorgeous art, enthralling music, engrossing atmosphere, and strong voice acting. This is not just another great Supergiant game, it's my favorite Supergiant game. Hats off to the studio and I look forward to seeing what they do next.

A game with a good story and great graphics, but plagued by frustrating gameplay mechanics. The mechanics themselves are not bad per say, they are interesting at first. However, it gets very repetitive over time and I had moments where I was frustrated because I wanted to get on with the story but it was just one enemy after another.

That being said, I stuck through it all because it is a good experience. The music, atmosphere, characters, and general uniqueness of the game make it worth a recommendation.

If this game teaches you one thing it's that you better be damn grateful you weren't on the Obra Dinn.

It is IMPOSSIBLE that you play this game and still believe video games can't be art. Hats off to Nomada Studio, this game is absolutely beautiful. I will not say Gris' story, as it's best experienced. I will say that not one word is spoken in this entire game, yet the story is told clearly and wonderfully. Every frame of this game is a gorgeous artwork and the gameplay will surprise you in a lot of ways.

This game is not long. It is 3 hours. However, it is 3 very memorable, very moving hours. You might spend this much money on a longer game that will entertain you but will soon be forgotten. The decision is yours, but you will not find a game that replaces Gris. This is special.

What makes this game special is its personal story and the harsh realities that drive its horror. The story is beautiful and haunting (in a melancholic way). I recommend going in without any knowledge of the story, because finding out what happened is part of the experience. Without spoilers, and in as vague a way as possible, this game tackles the decisions that we make, the contexts surrounding them, and the consequences thereafter. That description doesn't do justice to the amount of real issues that this game touches on.

It's point and click gameplay, don't expect more than that. The horror isn't "jump scare" horror, it uses audio-visual queues to set an unsettling atmosphere throughout the game. This is one game that kept me thinking back on it well after the credits rolled.
